I know I already covered the subject of exoskeletons in this thread. But I thought this idea deserved a thread all its own. Again, I came up with this idea as a child…
As I’ve said, I thought up alot interesting inventions as a child (would that I only copyrighted some of them, I guess). And one idea was for a building-sized exoskeleton. I imagined that the operator would be in the center of this enormous exoskeleton, wearing a sensory-conveying suit (ironically I came up with this idea just a couple years before the virtual reality craze of the late 80’s and early 90’s–more on the vr aspect at the end of this post). The suit would transfer all the auditory, visual and tactile sensations to the person. Ah, but the pièce de résistance of my invention was the way that the sensation of motion was transfered to the operator–by the movement of the giant exoskeleton itself! You see, I imagined as the exoskeleton, say, did a somersault, this head-over-heels motion would automatically be felt by the operator as the move was made. So in a way, the operator of this suit would really become a giant, or so the illusion would seem. Pretty neat, no?
I imagined this human-turned-giant-creature would be able to do things humans could only dream of now, like building a structure by hand, or rescuing someone in some otherwise inaccessible place (and don’t forget the importance of being big if we ever clone dinosaurs a la Jurassic Park ). I only later found out that the main problem with vr, now at least, was computer lag time, i.e., the fact computers now can only transfer information so fast. Of course, in the not-too-distant future, this will all change

So what do you think of my idea ? And more importantly, has anyone else ever thought of it yet? If not, this might be the one idea I finally get to patent this time
