Expanding Sprite?

I’ve just opened up a can or Sprite, something I rarely drink and was reminded of something that happened several years ago.

I had a case of sprite in the fridge… at least 2 or 3 of those cans, when I opened it the liquid expanded and overflowed out the hole. It was gradual over a couple of second and not instant. This was not due to fizzyness as there were no bubbles… it looked just like it would if more liquid was being pumped in the bottom.

It did not taste any different.

Anyone have any idea why it might do that?

This happened to me a few times too, then I realized I was putting the soda too close to the cooling vent in the refrigerator.
