Experience with compression bandage?

I’m trying to decide if I want to get a compression bandage for my knee. My PT says she knows some people who swear by them, and some people who say they don’t help, and the only way to know is to try.

I have a little arthritis in my knee, and a worn tendon from compensating for a bad ankle on the opposite side for years, before I finally had surgery on it. A support (ie, slightly rigid) bandage helps a little, but it makes me limp, and I don’t want to cause problems either in my good ankle, or my knee on the other side.

I’m aware that there is nothing magic about material in a compression bandage, like copper, or some other metal, and I intend to stay away from copper ones, because copper jewelry actually makes my joints hurt, so anyone who makes claims for their compression bandage that sound even slightly woo gets a pass. (Tommie Copper, I’m looking at you.)

Has anyone ever used a compression bandage? What did you think? How do you make sure you have the right fit?

Go to Dollar Tree and get a knee or ankle support (just an elasticized tube of heavy fabric).

If it helps a little, you can upgrade to something more advanced. If it doesn’t, you’re only out a buck or two. It might even hit the sweet spot and be all you need.

Agree.

I have a drawer full of fancy shmancy knee compression. Totally worthless. A folded over Dollar Tree blue knee tube was all I needed. (Oh, and 6 months of physical therapy)
