My mom is having a stem cell procedure done next month as a chance at curing her cancer. The procedure goes as follows: remove a bunch of stem cells from blood, give high dose chemotherapy, wait one week, re-insert stem cells, recover. I’m flying out for a month to be her full-time caregiver. I’m wondering if any Dopers have had experiences with this type of procedure before, been a caregiver, and had any info/advice as to how to prepare? I want an idea of what this experience may be like, in order to have some idea of what to expect. The doctors have given me a lot of literature to read through, and I have calendars and doctors’ notes to read as well. I’m looking for first-hand experiences people would be willing to share. Many thanks.
