Expired Warranty/ CC scam telemarketers, any new news??

Evidently, the people behind the extended warranty called a senator on his cellphone while he was in session, The following news and surge of Chatter about how they were going down, and the possibility of the CC lower your rate scam getting taken out soon.

Does any of this ring a bell to you?

Is there any fresh news on these stories??

I don’t seem to have any google fu, as it seems to be called here.

I still have all those numbers in my call rejection list and would like to know if it is safe to remove them, to make room for all the new $#!^ that is coming my way.

Thank you for any help.

Aha! I found one of the original pages I read way back then, http://usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/cars-trucks/daily-news/090512-Senator-Calls-for-Investigation-into-Car-Warranty-Calls/

Anyone got any updates??

There were two companies doing the bulk of these warranties, and both were located in Missouri. It appears that the Missouri Attorney General finally shut them down. I haven’t been called for months.

The setup was done in such a way to prevent locating the actual people behind the calls. The robo-calls were done from outside the U.S. using VOIP calling and spoofing the caller ID. This made it impossible for almost anyone to track down the source of the calls and kept the initial call outside of U.S. jurisdiction.

However, once you accept the call, you were usually transfered to a person working from their home phone who would take basic information and then transfer you to the vehicle warranty company that was actually behind these calls. Unless you were actually about to write a check, you had no idea who was behind any of these calls.

Verizon and AT&T had John Doe suits against the people behind these calls because they didn’t know where these calls were coming from. They have since modified their complaints to include the actual companies involved who operated under dozens of different aliases.

I’ve gotten several recent (as in the past 2-3 weeks) calls. Same spiel.

Thank you Philster, I have it in my bookmarks now.
