Explain to me: McRib popularity?

Just as a data point, over here in Germany, the McRib is available year-round, and nobody really gives a crap about it. I used to get it every now and then, but even that made me something of an outlier.

I’m almost certain I’ve also seen it at 7-11. Now whether it was a limited time offering, limited geographical area offering, or something else, I don’t know. I’m also reasonably certain I’ve seen it at random gas stations in the hot food section. Plus, as noted, you can often find the rib patties at your local grocer’s freezer.

The DollarTree we used to be nearby had freezers and they would appear there intermittently. When we moved, the one we’re now near has no refrigerators or freezers so I can’t say for the past five years.

When I was in middle school / high school, on rare occasions the cafeteria would serve something that very closely resembled a McRib (same type of patty, barbecue sauce, bun). It always felt like a special treat when they served them; they were one of the best things the cafeteria served. Admittedly that is in comparison to typical school cafeteria offerings.

I actually put a cut up pork shoulder chop into my food processor to make ‘ground pork’ for a McRib.

So you grade them on a curve?

My sister’s favorite burger at Red Robin is the Banzai with grilled pineapple and teriyaki sauce. It’s really yummy. Grilled pineapple is divine.

This where I am. However, you have to realize TB doesn’t make Mexican food. It makes TB food. And sometimes you just get a craving for an ersatz “taco” at TB.

A beef burger with a slice of grilled fruit is probably more appealing than without the beef, even if it is Friday. I guess I misremembered the story, but it has been decades since I read it.

Banquet Family Size BBQ Sauce and Boneless Pork Riblet Dinner and a bag of Hoagie Rolls.

Feed the family for 7 bucks

Yeah. It is not bad, but way too freaken sweet.

Now the KFC ribs I remember were marvelous.

Mind you, too much McD food is aimed at kids- too sweet, lots of ketchup and hfcs. And their fries are a sad reminder of once perfection.

Chick-fil-A’s main grilled chicken sandwiches are too chewy for me to get a real bite in successfully. Their waffle fries are amazing and their lemonade is out of this world. I also like the way their employees treat you while you’re in the store.

And I absolutely refuse to ever eat there again, because of their record of donating money to anti-SSM organizations. I’m a cis, white, straight guy, but I consider myself an ardent LGBT rights supporter.

Not a fan of their waffle fries, nor their historic stance against the LGBT community, but they give my friend’s special needs kid a job where he has few opportunities (and I love their sandwiches), so it’s a pick your battles with me, I guess. Like many, they do some good, some bad.

Interesting. There isn’t one especially close to me, but I have tried it at airports. I liked the main grilled chicken sandwich. It felt like I was eating a piece of real chicken. I though the fries were fine, but wondered what the fuss was about. Same with the lemonade. Perfectly decent lemonade.

My understanding is that they have mostly stopped doing that. And… if we want companies to change their ways, we should recognize when they do so, imo. I’m not a huge fast food consumer, but they are on my list of places to grab a quick lunch at an airport. (I also like a fillet-o-fish, less tartar sauce, as an airport meal.)

How does that work out for you? I think I’ve seen McRibs being made, and it looks like a ‘pork slurry’ or ‘pork purée’. I haven’t been able to get that consistency when I’ve tried it with beef in a food processor. (I made ‘pizza crust’ out of chicken breast once. I finally did get the right consistency in the food processor.)

Speaking of ribs, shout out to the under appreciated Turkey “Ribs”. (actually shoulder area) Grilled, they’re delicious. Easy to eat, not too messy. Great festival food.

I found this informative video on how the McRib patty is made (not ‘pork slurry’)…

Not sure if it makes the thing more appetizing seeing how it’s made, but it does appear to be made from actual pork (picnic cut).

I think that’s the video I saw. The pork isn’t as finely ground (‘puréed’) as I remember, and I don’t remember Grant Imahara or Wes Bellamy. But it’s probably the one.

Oh, yeah. It’s like SPAM. People think it’s disgusting, but it’s jut pork.

Not that I’ll ever have another McRib. They just don’t do anything for me.

Planned scarcity.

On a whim last weekend I bought some Vienna Beef sliced pickles, and they are the best pickles I’ve ever had.

Starting? It’s been a running joke for years.
