My father’s father was a commercial fisherman (except during Prohibition, when he was a bootlegger), and my father went on trips to help Grandpa when he wasn’t in school. Hey, he was free labor. At any rate, my dad has loved boating all his life, and he’s owned boats all his adult life, but he hates fishing. And he doesn’t care for seafood, unless it’s EXTREMELY fresh. He particularly doesn’t like butterfish. Grandpa Bodoni loved butterfish, and if there was any butterfish in his catch, then that’s what he brought home for the family to eat.
Personally, I hate boating, but that’s probably because I get motion sick, so I associate boating with feeling like I’m gonna puke at any second. I do enjoy going out to a lake or ocean and looking at the water and associated scenery. When I was a kid and teen, we’d go out to the lake and I’d get a kick out of feeding bread to the fish, unless the geese spotted us with bread in our hands. Geese can range from very aggressive to downright mean and scary when they see food that they want.
