Explanation for weird coincidences keep happing?

it’s the Universe “poking” you, like on Facebook

Ok, but just let me put one last coincidence, and then, if you don’t think anything of it, i’ll stop posting.

Yesterday night I was on my ipod and I was writing a post for another thread. I was writing the word ‘more’, but, after putting the ‘m’, accidently clicked off of the box that I was writing the post in. I clicked back in the box, and finished writing the word ‘more’, though, accidently, I put ‘orr’ instead of ‘ore’. It then changed the word so it said ‘mOrr’, though, if I haden’t of clicked off of the screen while writing ‘more’ and put ‘morr’ it would of just changed it to ‘more’. The reason I think this is a coincidence is that ‘Orr’ was the name of someone that commented on this thread (he’s one of the only people that put something useful as well, and I replied to him saying ok thank you), and if I would of clicked off of the screen accidently after any other ‘character’ in the whole of the post, then this wouldn’t of happened. I did quite along sectences, with like 200 characters, so there was porbably like a 1 in 200 chances of this happening.

How can you not find this weird?

I don’t think there is anything there, either. Sorry. Also, just because this is driving me nuts, almost every time you use the word “of” in your post, you should have used the word “have.”

It’s “would have” not “would of” for example. What is confusing you is the contraction “would’ve” which sounds a little bit like ‘of’ but ‘of’ is just wrong, wrong, wrong and makes you sound illiterate.

Get help.

Seriously.

If you’re taking any kind of non-prescribed drug, alcohol included - STOP.
If you have gone off your prescribed meds - go see your doctor NOW.
Do NOT self medicate - talk to your doctor - right NOW!

I aren’t on any drugs or alcohol, and I don’t have any prescribed meds.

Another coincidence, I was watching a video on youtube, and it was getting towards the end of it, so I clicked off of it, at 4:44. Then, on another video, I was listening to a song, and it was getting towards the end of the video, so I clicked back towards the start, and clicked at 0:44.

What you don’t seem to understand is that this is just normal shit. You’re assigning some special meaning to it that just isn’t there. For example, last week at my job I was going through a complicated 35 page bill and it seemed like when I calculated the totals for each section, I kept getting amounts that ended in 88 cents. I mean what are the odds? Yet it happened over and over. Or in a card game I play, it seems like really frequently if someone plays a Jack, the next card played will be a 9. It seems to happen more often than other cards. Shit like that happens all the time. It doesn’t mean anything. As I said, as you get older you’ll start to accept that things line up in weird ways ALL THE TIME. Our brains recognize patterns and make them up when they aren’t there.

You’re correct, but CoolGuy is European, I think English is not his first language.

CoolGuy, I can see some of that being weird.

But it is not significant.

I’m Engish.

Also, you make think that it’s just a bit weird, but when these stuff seem to be happening like day in, day out, they get alot more than just a bit weird.

Unlike some other posters, I don’t think you’re going crazy or need to go to the doctor or anything. You are becoming a tad bit obsessive about this, though. That said, I used to find coincidences quite interesting at around your age, too. I found it odd how sometimes I would go to call a friend, the exact second I would reach for the phone, it’d ring and it’d be a call from him (or, even weirder, when we call each other at exactly the same time and there was a busy signal.) Or when I was in 8th grade, in love with a girl whose initials were C.H., and there was that episode of Wonder Years where there’s a P.P. + C.H. carved into a tree (for Paul Pfeiffer and Carla Healey) and I realized that was exactly the same initials as my own and my current infatuation. There was also a period of time when repeating digits seemed to be following me around everywhere: in receipts, on clocks, on odometers, etc.

But these are all normal coincidences, and I haven’t even gotten into the stranger ones. Humans like to find patterns in places where there are none. (The classic example being seeing shapes in clouds, but random numbers are a notorious source for people finding non-existant “patterns.”) When you have a life with millions of data points, eventually other random data points are going to intersect with them. Add to that the fact that you are stretching some of these coincidences, (really, the Orr thing qualifies as an interesting coincidence for you?) and you’re bound to find coincidences in nearly everything you experience.

I mean, right there, simulpost. Are you going to mark that down as a “weird” coincidence? It’s not.

Shit, what are the chances of that. There is a post on this thread for nearly 2 hours, and then we both post in like the same minute.

Did you post when the thread was brough back to the top by my post, or is this just an incredible coincidence?

Doesn’t that scare you a bit?

So if its not a weird coincidence that what is it?

Um, no, why would it scare me? Simulposts happen all the freaking time on the Dope, even after lengthy downtime between posts. Hang out here and you’ll see. Sometimes, even three people post at exactly the same time.

And, no, I didn’t post when the thread was brought to the top. I was writing my response apparently at the same time you were writing yours.

Just a plain old coincidence. There really is nothing weird about it. I’m not sure why you’re placing cosmic significance into a mundane, common event like a simulpost.

Because there wasn’t a post for TWO WHOLE HOURS, and then we post within like a minute of each other, not even a minute apart. Thats the second time thats happened to me in just this thread.

I just don’t understand how that can’t even bother you in the slightest.

And I can’t understand how it would bother you at all.

OK, let’s going a different route. What do you think the universe is trying to tell you by these “creepy” coincidences such as simulposts?

Well I don’t know, maybe god, or ‘the universe’ or whatever is just doing them randomly messing around.

I don’t know, but when stuff like this are happening loads, then i’m porbably going to think that that bad thing that i’m like worrying quite alot about might happen to me.

Because we’ve seen it happen before, countless times. It happens ALL THE TIME. It just isn’t that unusual or weird.

yeah but it feels weird to me that there isn’t like a post for like 120 minutes, then like two in the same minute.
