Exploding hockey sticks

It seems to me like there has been a record number of sticks breaking during critical plays this playoff season.

I know the players like the new composite sticks because it adds a little extra umph to their shots, but when the stick explodes during a one-timer into an open net time after time  I would think the coach would demand that the players stop using the damn things!

How are new stick designs tested by manufacturers before being put on the market? Do the manufacturers just not care that their sticks are crap?

I think this about sums it up.

I don’t think sticks made for players are held to any guarantee. I think collector’s look for a stamp that reads something like “Custom Stick - No Guarantee” when buying “game used” sticks.

I’d think the maufacturers would care. If it keeps happening, they could quickly lose players using them.

This was constantly happening when Nike began their foray into hockey. I recall Federov’s Nike sticks breaking constantly the first year they were out.

Is there a new manufacturer coming into the market that is the common denominator here, or a new “technology” being used in composite sticks? Many times these things are R&D products that get tested in the NHL before consumer release.
