Extinct Foods that I Miss

Good news for Quisp fans: netgrocer.com sells it. It’s on its way back. Not to mention that there’s a Quisp web site.

‘Marathon’ candy bars and bbq KFC chicken. I know they have it in a few places, but never in a town where I live.

Every now and then on odd years with a blue moon some company will briefly put out some of those old Adam’s Gum flavors…
Clove
Black Jack
Pepsin
The first chaw will knock your mouth for a loop.

Well, I * would’ve * said, ‘Coco Wheats’ but I just found them online. However, it is very wise to read the fine print!! I ended up ordering ‘family size’ and I now have a gajillion boxes of Coco Wheats that no one likes but me!!

I need to find some recipes that I can stick this in, so my kids will never know the difference!! hehehehe

Did you know that the failure rate for new food products is something like 95% or more?

I miss the venerable Fi-Bar.

I also miss Cadbury Flake bars. I know that they are far from extinct, but they are awfully hard to find (and expensive) on this side of the pond.

There used to be a fast food chain in Southern California called Pup 'n Taco. They had great chili dogs and crinkle-cut french fries.

I also miss Van de Kamp’s chocolate chip cookies, Hershey’s Butter Chip bars, Reggie bars, Caravelle bars, and Turkish Taffy.

This is an unborn product, not an extinct one. A few years ago, Mr. Rilch and I were in Chadd’s Ford, PA, to see the Brandywine River Museum. We went out to pick up a pizza and some diet cola, and discovered a version of Pepsi called Coffee Cola, that was being test-marketed. Oh, was it good, by itself, and with bourbon. We were sure it would catch on immediately, and equally sure that it would be a hit on the west coast. :frowning: Never saw it again.

“His eyes are as green as a fresh-pickled toad,
His hair is as dark as a blackboard,
I wish he was mine, he’s really divine,
The hero who conquered the Dark Lord.”

I was flipping channels once. The juxtaposition of a religious show and a commercial was amusing:

“Pup’N’Taco! Pup’N’Taco! Pup’N’Taco!”

Green River soda…

Oh - if anyone can identify these by name, it would be wonderful. Back when I was a kid (many, many moons ago), they had a snack my brother and I used to mog on. They were chocolate flavored sticks - they came in foil packets you would peel apart - they were cylindrical - maybe four inches long - and had some kind of “astronaut like” name…GOD I MISS THOSE

I miss Taco Bell’s original encherito it had a corn tortilla and black olives. It was nothing like the piece of crap encherito that
taco bell sells today.

Also I miss burger king’s original french fries, the new ones suck.

There is a website hosted by a couple in Florida that stocks had to get items such as some mentioned above. They stock up on discontinued items or supply items only available in certain regions of the country try this www.hometownfavorites.com
There is also a website called www.topsecretrecipes.com that helps you re-create some of your favorites. (Sorry, I don’t know how to enable those links, I’ll get around to learning how eventually)

I guess I don’t need to learn how - they enable through magic!

Missy, those were Pillsburys’ space food sticks…oh god how i miss them

Thank you thank you thank you.

Gotta run - there’s a search engine waiting for me!

Space Food Sticks, space food sticks, space food sticks, space food sticks, space food sticks…

Koala Yummies. Jesus H. Christ, those were good. They were these little wafers shaped like koalas, and filled with this really soft chocolate. I think they were a crossover from some sort of Japanese snack, but they didn’t hit in the US. I never understood why, because they were heavenly.

These little brown and mint-green M&M shaped candies. They were mint-chocolate, and had crowns printed on them where the M would be on an M&M. I think they were called Royals.

Zotz. I know of one place in Columbus where I can get them, and every time I go there I get handfuls. They’re these little grape or strawberry flavored hard candies that fizz when you get to the center of them. Weird, but good, and they’re always fun to give to someone who has never tried them before.

This is very location-specific, but I miss Scream, my favorite ice-cream store. I miss Basil ice cream. I miss Rose Petal with Bittersweet Chocolate ice cream. I miss Bittersweet Chocolate orange ice cream. I miss French Buttercream ice cream (the sign for that one said “So French, it’ll hate you.”). I miss their Hot Chocolate ice cream, which was chocolate with white pepper in it. God, that place kicked ass. And now it’s gone, and I don’t know whether it exists somewhere else or not.

I miss TEEM Flakes so much I could cry. :frowning: Does anyone else remember that cereal? It was made by Nabisco. They weren’t just corn flakes, they were made from corn, rice, wheat and oats. They were SO crunchy you could pour milk on a bowl of them, come back an hour later and still have crunchy flakes!

Drain - is this the place you’re talking about? Maybe you could call them and order something over the phone with a credit card or something and they could ship it to you…
