In the '88 Olympics in Seoul, Roy Jones Jr. beat the snot out of the South Korean boxer in the finals. But since three of the five judges had been wined and dined by South Korean officials, the South Korean won in a 3-2 split decision.
Umps, damn it, umps.
In crickets Work Cup (one day Internationals) the final was played between Australia and Sri Lanka. Despite this being the final of the world cup- played every four years- and a showcase event the umpires and match referee got it wrong and made the teams play extra overs in poor visibility even though the match had legally been completed. The opposing captains were aware that the necessary overs had been completed.
While it is reasonably clear that the ball did not completely cross the line, it is hard to fault the decision of the linesman, who would have been standing some 3 yards off the line, in line with the next to last German defender, making the call on a bang bang play hard. It’s like faulting the determination on the Immaculate reception, even if we had convincing evidence that Frenchie Fuqua did, indeed, touch the ball.
Make that World Cup.
Music City Miracle - you’ll have to skip ahead a minute or so.
It’s a tough call. It seems to me that the ball was thrown from the 25 and was caught at the 25 plus a few inches. It’s a hard judgment to make during the play, and the reviewing official made the right decision to not overturn the ruling on the field.
I’m a supporter of neither the Titans nor Bills, but I’m glad that play stood just for the sheer awesomeness of it.
A bit like Lennox Lewis’s draw against Evander Holyfield in March 1999. :dubious:
You do have that right. It was Jerome Bettis that called it, too.
As was pointed out by another poster, the actual facts are not so clear cut. It is apparent that the Steelers were not as clear in their call, and the referee was probably correct to take what he heard first.
