Eyeglass Question

Two questions, really.

First, I’ve worn the same frames since high school, back in the seventies. Kind of out of style, but I like them. They’re rimless, and the bottom half of the lens is shaped like the bottom half of an octagon. Don’t know if that makes sense, but it’s the best way to describe them.

Optometrists/opticians, at least around here, will only make the lenses out of plastic. They won’t make them out of glass, which I very much prefer. They say there’s too much chance of the lenses chipping when they’re glass. I’ve had plenty of plastic lenses chip, so I don’t care about that. I’m told that New York State mandates that rimless glasses be made out of plastic for this reason. Is this true, and if it is, can I get glass lenses in another state?

Second, I’ve never been able to get a decent pair of prescription sunglasses. My favorite sunglasses are Ray-Ban G15 lenses. Does Bausch & Lomb, the maker of Ray-Bans, make this glass available to opticians for prescription lenses?

Thanks in advance.
