My sister and I have a house less than five miles south of there.
I am here at work, about 1-2 miles away. I’m not sure why, but it surprised me that I hadn’t heard anything. I guess I figured that kind of thing would make a noise. And I’m sure it did, but being in the middle of a big office building probably insulates it nicely.
Apparently the Governor offramps on/off the 805 are closed right now.
Wow! Just saw the headline. I hope no one was at home in the two houses destroyed.
Miramar must still be running flight operations because a jet just went over from there.
They’ve been showing it on MSNBC for the past couple of hours. So far, no fatalities are being reported.
Is it bad of me that my second thought, after hoping the homeowners were away at work, was hoping they didn’t have any pets?
No it is not bad of you, and I hope the same.
Here’s a link to where the jet went down:

Straight off the end of the runway.
How does the damage from this get paid for? Is it paid for by the Air Force or does home owners insurance cover something like this?
What the hell is “mild” condition? Is the pilot now soft-spoken and generally pleasant?
Glad he (or she?) is okay, anyway, and hoping for the same for the people on the ground.
Since it was a Marine Corps jet, the Department of the Navy is liable.
The web site for the San Diego Union-Tribune is showing a “Breaking News” that there are two confirmed dead, but nothing available right now beyond the one sentence.
The “Breaking News” item is now a headline on the front page of the site, but still no details.
From what I can gather, it went down approximately here on google maps.
When I was watching the news on KGTV (thank you, Slingbox), they showed a large piece of the canopy that had fallen in a backyard on Red Deer St., about four blocks away from the main crash. I imagine there is probably debris spread throughout the neighbourhood. According to an eyewitness, the pilot looked to be trying to make it to the canyon, but didn’t quite get there.
Incidentally, my husband grew up on Edmonton Avenue, three blocks away from the crash. It’s apparently a little disturbing watching a neighbourhood you know that well go up in flames.
Now getting some details about the fatalities.
That’s terrible. 2 dead and 2 missing, all from the same house. That family is going to be devastated.
He was trying to put it down in Rose Canyon, apparently, to avoid the houses and the 805. Sounds like he damned near rode it into the ground.
How awful.
I also took a look around on Google Street View, and I found more or less the exact location of one of the photos.
Now take a look at this angle from streetview. You can see the small RV parked next to the same tree.
That’s spooky. I’d guess a Google Street View camera vehicle went through the neighborhood fairly recently.
I used to ride my bike in Rose Canyon all the time. If the jet had gone down in the canyon it might not have killed anyone, but the resulting wildfire could have done a lot more damage.
