Can anybody tab out F# for me? The only one i can find in my chord index is too high. I know the power chord version, on the 2nd and 4th frets, but its too low. I want to use all the strings. Would it just be a barre chord with all strings in 2nd held down and just the 4th and 5th on the fourth fret? Plz help a beginner! Thanks!
Close; that would be F#m
F# is
-2-
-2-
-3-
-4-
-4-
-2-
With the high E being the top string there. Remember that you can move that anywhere up or down the neck, with each fret corresponding to a step in the chromatic scale. So if you move it up fret by fret it becomes
G, G#, A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F
Some of those maybe should be their corresponding flat (e.g., Bflat instead of A#), but that really doesn’t matter; the notes sound the same.
Hope that helped!
JRootabega’s answer is correct. Perhaps this will also help:
Whatever form of F chord you make, it can be slid up one fret to become an F# chord. And one more fret to then become a G chord, etc.
If you want to use all the strings, start with a full barre F chord (barre across the first fret). Slide each finger up one fret (barre across the second fret) and it’s now F#. While each and every finger needs to go up one fret, move them as a unit–from the barre F, slide the whole hand up without disturbing the relative position of the fingers.
If all of the above is too technical:
Barre at the 9th fret and make an “A” chord with your other fingers, or just lay your ring finger across the top 4 (at the 11th) and try to mute the high E string. If you’re looking for the F#m, just make an Am. Barre chords are amazing and a plateau breaker for a student. You can walk that E and A (and Em and Am) up and down the fretboard with impunity once you figure out that it’s all math and memorization.
Kindly rock on. Oh, if you’re in a band: Don’t cover Beatles tunes. This is a lose-lose situation. We covered a Blondie tune
Gary T and JRoot are completely correct, I’m just giving you the bonehead version in case it helps. LEARN YOUR BARRE CHORDS!
