F**k the Catholic League in whichever orifice is most prone to bleeding

Not so far as I know.

Not so you’d notice. They’re a special interest group.

The leader of CL, Bill Donohue, has spent his public career raising indignant protests and organizing boycotts over things most people (including, I’m sure, most Catholics) would not recognize as “anti-Catholic” in any way. E.g., the ABC TV series Nothing Sacred; Joane Osborne’s song “One of Us”; the whole career of Marilyn Manson (just playing into the dude’s hands, there! giving him free Satancred! ); an episode of CSI that offered what Donohue considered a negative portrayal of anti-abortion activists; and this year’s flap over the phrase “Happy Holidays” vs. “Merry Christmas.” He has also derided Hollywood as being controlled by “secular Jews” and called the stories about sexual abuse of altar boys by priests “a homosexual scandal, not a pedophilia scandal.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_A._Donohue

It’s not like he has credibility to burn. In fact, in some ways he’s funnier than Parker & Stone – mainly because, for some incomprehensible reason, he seems to expect to be taken seriously.

Hell no-just the opposite, in fact. Most Catholics I know are really embarassed by them.

Could you provide a cite for anyone who supports a prohibition on racist caricatures or on racist speech of any sort? People may be offended to varying or inconsistent degrees depending on who the targets are but I don’t know of very many people who want to prohibit any of it in a legal sense. I certainly haven’t seen it on this board. Unless you can actually show examples of people who have called for the “prohibition” of offensive caraicatures in other instances who now support the South Park episode, then you have not located any hypocrisy or inconsistency.

From what I’ve seen, Donohue seems to have far more of a grudge against what he perceives as “secularists” than he does against the far more authentic and pernicious kinds of anti-Catholic sentiment that are prevalent among certain strains of Protestant Christianity. Donohue is not really a champion of Catholicism so much as he uses the organization as a platform to propound a more generic, conservative Christian ideology. In Donohues’ mind (or at least in his pretexts) gay marriage and “secular Hollywood Jews” are somehow specifically anti-Catholic while the far more legitimate hostility which can be found in fundamentalist Christianity gets short public shrift.

Yeah, I don’t see Donahue out there going against the Left Behind books (and the ministry of LeHaye, which IS anti-Catholic), or Jack Chick.

Jack Chick is way more offensive than South fucking Park and not quite as funny. (Well, maybe it is, but it’s not intended to be funny, while SP is.)

The nostril?

“Ze noseplugs! Zey do nossing!”

I did not mean in the legal sense.
