Just to show there are no hard feelings I’ll posit an alternative theory that supports the not gonna charge anybody Garland group even though I don’t actually support this view.
It might be that he was forced to take action due to the classified documents case. Even if the thought moving on was good for the country he couldn’t ignore the security threat that leaving Trump with the documents posed. So he had to launch the Mar Largo raid. Then once that happened, the die was cast and it was in for a penny in for a pound, and so he might as well throw the book at him.

It does matter if Trump can manage to delay the conclusion of all these trials until after the election and win the election in the meantime.
If earlier reports were true that the beginning of the efforts that bore fruit against Trump (the lies and tampering with officials/courts) was delayed beyond necessity in favor of a bottom-up investigation starting with the people who actually stormed the capital, the delay could be extremely relevant.

I will obviously be happy if he gets convicted. Hopefully it doesn’t get delayed beyond necessity and they can wrap it up before the general election but with how unorthodox Trump is willing to be I’d like there to be more wiggle room. Especially if it wasn’t necessary for the DOJ to take this long since Garland took over.
