Face washing fail: What am I doing wrong?

I wash my face and shave in the shower. Beats making a mess while standing at the sink. Don’t understand why anyone would do it differently.

Are you using warm water or cold? If it’s cold, you might find the warmer water helps dislodge the cleanser a little easier. Also, are you using a cream-type cleanser or a foaming more rinsable one? If you prefer the creamy ones, Cetaphil as mentioned does rinse off relatively well and doesn’t matter if you leave some on your face. Although it’s not fab at removing mascara in my experience.

Alternatively, what about the oil-cleansing method? Totally different way of washing your face but I really like it. Lots of threads about it on this board as well.

I wash my face in the shower. When I was a teenager I had terrible acne. Nothing worked to fix it until a doctor told me to use nothing on my face but water and scrub lightly. I do this either with a toweling wash cloth or a small loofah. It cured my acne and since then I have stuck to it.

A couple of times a year my face may feel disgustingly greasy (hot weather, heavy exercise) and I may use the shampoo on my face or some of my GF’s face scrub she leaves at my place but 99 times out of 100 for 40 years, plain water.

Surly Chick is right on with the Nutragena wipes (although they are pricey and if you can’t afford them, the Walgreens brand will work in a pinch). Anyway, I use these and just wipe down with cotton balls sprayed with water afterward. I don’t have any breakouts ever and my skin looks great (if I say so myself).
