Facebook admins are idiots!

Facebook is certainly a coward (as much as a corporation can be), but that hardly seems a fair summary of the article:

It was apparently an open-source Facebook project, implying corporate would be the ones making the call on a banner.

Sorry, wrong article. This is the one which says the employee was fired due to protesting Facebook’s stance on Trump.

On a mostly unrelated matter, I just submitted a request to join a science-based Facebook group, and was presented with the following question to answer before the admins would consider adding me:

“How can you positively contribute to this group?”

My response was “Dunno yet. I was hoping for fun times and prizes.”

Sigh. I may not be who they’re looking for…

IMHO “calling out” a coworker publicly because they did not support your political view is not proper, IMHO.

Not just him; the fired employee was one of seven engineers in his group who walked off in protest of Facebook’s inaction on Trump’s posts.

This smacks of Facebook looking for an excuse to fire a protester.

Facebook mods are fucked up because they watch snuff videos all day.

Burning Man is streaming a documentary on Sunday on Larry Harvey, one of the founders who died back in 2018. You have to buy a ticket but the proceeds go towards keeping the event alive so I was all for it until the the link revealed it was “a Facebook event.” I posted in no uncertain terms I would have nothing to do with Facebook or Zuckerberg and would wait until the documentary was available on a better platform.

I have a Facebook account – mainly because it is next to impossible to delete it – but have not logged into it for years. Sucking up to Donny Two-scoops is just the latest in my objections. Every time – every time – I would start thinking it would really be the best way of keeping in contact with the members of my various tribes there’s a new data breach or sharing information with government agencies who I’d rather not have it. This does not even get into the harmful psychological effects on users – at least that’s self-inflicted.

I don’t Tweet, either.
