Facebook help please.

I got a facebook notification that says “Someone you’re not connected to just commented on your public post. You can always change this in account settings.” Clicking on it takes to a page of the settings, but not to the post or comment. How do I find out which post was commented on, who made the comment, and what the comment was?

Click the date of the post. If it works as mine does, the reference/notification to the post should show the date. Click that.
.

It’s also possible that they’ve since deleted it. If you click on a notification for a since deleted post, the results can seem somewhat random.

I have no idea which post to do that with. How do I find out what post is being referred to? Clicking on any part of the notification just takes me to the settings page for public posts.

I understand it might have been deleted, though it seems odd someone would go to the trouble of posting a response only to delete it shortly thereafter. Clicking on the notification consistently takes me to the settings page.

Did you not get the standard “so-and-so commented on your post.” notification? That one will link to the post in question.

I did not get a notification that mentioned a name, only the one that said “someone you’re not connected to.”

That seems weird. I get a notification anytime anyone comments on one of my posts, and I have my privacy set so anyone can comment on anything. (I don’t post anything I wouldn’t want the world to see.) Or even if someone comments on a post I’ve commented on. Do you get notifications for other comments on your posts? Maybe you’ve got notifications for comments turned off in your settings.

It’s not that odd. I’ve done it either because I’ve changed my mind about posting or because (maybe in your case) I didn’t realize I was on someone else’s profile, similar to how people accidentally post to years old zombie threads that they didn’t realize were old.

Are you on desktop or the mobile app?

What I described above was on the desktop. On my phone, clicking on the notification goes to a black screen with a tiny spinning circle in the center. It spun for over ten minutes before I gave up on it.
