Facebook is run by fucking idiots

Tempest in a teapot. It was a bad decision to begin with, but a mildly bad one. It was the right decision to override the initial bad decision. It’s very likely that the first decision was made by an algorithm assisted by a low-level content monitor who erred on the side of caution, and that the reversal was made by someone with a little more power to recognize that rules have exceptions. Why anyone would get worked up by this is totally not beyond me, because I know all about the Internet.

Long the bastion of photo-shopped lies with Breitbart captions, Facebook is a necessary evil if you want contact with groups of friends from schools or prior jobs.
Its like that ONE house in the neighborhood where really nice people live in the house, but they let their dogs crap all over their yard and never clean it up.

You can wave to them from a distance, but you have to understand the smell… and you can ring their doorbell if you want to say ‘hi’ to them, but you have to step around the steaming piles of crap to do it (and its rude to bring it up to them in conversation).

North Dakota.

I see what you’re saying, but anyone who goes to Facebook for news or history is not in a good place for either of those.

How silly of me …

I mean, can you post that picture here on SMDB without a NSFW tag or something, and you have to click a link. On Facebook it just appears on your feed, you don’t have to click on anything. I wish they would take it down. I can just click a link and see it on another site if I want to. This is such a silly outrage.

I won’t pick a dog in any of this thread’s sub-debates. If FB is the message board for idiots, then SDMB is the board for people too erudite by half.

What I do want to point out is that it is the America-with-Facebook that may be the America that elects Donald Trump. Given FB’s ubiquity and that even FauxNews is less than enthusiastic in its support for the buffoon, this may be causation rather than mere correlation.

My sons’ friend recently had his FB account removed apparently because his schoolchums, as a prank, ganged up and clicked Spam on his posts. At least that doesn’t happen at SDMB. (The sci-fi story where robots rule the world may be nearer than we thought, but instead of the malevolent Collosus, it’s Zuckerberg’s algorithms trying to maximize clicks on deodorant ads.)
