Facebook question

I do have a facebook account. I ONLY use it to check out pictures of our dogs when we have to board them on vacation.

So if I go on facebook and search for someone, and find them, will that ping their account? Will they know even if I don’t open any of their, post or pictures or whatever?

I’m not a stalker. A friend of a friend told me someone is a big Trump supporter, and I would like to know for myself. Oh… I guess that sort of makes me a stalker…

I don’t know that it’ll ping their account, but it’s happened to me numerous times - enough to believe that it’s a feature of FB.

If I want to search for someone and I’d rather not be pinged that it was me, I log out first. Idk if that is enough. Probably should even use a VPN if you want to be extra careful.

There is no mechanism for Facebook to ping you to alert you to people who visit your page - as far as I’m aware, that just a LinkedIn “feature”.

The only thing that may happen is that The Algorithm may start increasing you and your FB friends’ appearances on their “Recommended Friends/People You May Know”.

After I visit a new FB page, that person often gets recommended to me as a new connection, especially if we have a 1st or 2nd degree connection in common. So it seems trivial for FB to also recommend me to them.

Which my 2nd paragraph covers. But “you may have a connection with enipla” is not the same as “enipla visited your page 7 hours ago”.

If you’re not signed in, you’ll only see their public posts. If you’re signed in, you’ll only see their public posts (unless Facebook still allows them to select that Friends of Friends can see their posts).

Ok. Thanks.

It’s weird. A very good friend saw that this person is probably a Trump supporter. That supporter is married into the family (the family member is apolitical), and it will probably be up to me to sort things out when a spouse dies. I don’t want anything.I don’t think there is a will (no idea). It’s gonna be a mess, and I really don’t want any contact with them. But, I suspect I will have no choice and have to help to some degree.

Is this death in the family imminent?

This all feels like prematurely borrowing trouble to me.

Two packs a day for decades. Heavy drinker. 70 years old. Not imminent, but predictable.

Doesn’t really matter I suppose if the spose it a MAGA. But I suspect I will get a phone call. I doubt they will be able to juggle this. It is hard, so I understand. There may be a bit of a hording issue that I want nothing to do with. I have a life.
