Factual Question about Women's Soccer Lawsuit

Hey everyone. I can’t find this answer online and I’m looking for a factual answer. It’s based on an argument I had with someone.

In essence: Women’s soccer players sued because they are paid less than men, and won a settlement.

Argument from those opposed: Women’s soccer earns less revenues than men’s, so of course they make less money.

What I heard somewhere but can’t seem to source: It’s true that the women’s soccer earns less revenue, but the lawsuit was seeking proportionally equal pay (that is, if pay for the men was 20% of revenues, the women wanted the same)

I’d really like to confirm which is true, and find a cite that I can throw in this person’s face (well, assuming my understanding is correct).

Thanks!

This is true for every other sport except soccer.

Short answer is: Yes, the women have recently earned more gross revenue than the men, particularly from actual games.

Long answer is: (still Yes, but it’s complicated)

While jokes in FQ are fine, we do expect that responses that are nothing but jokes will wait until there’s been some serious discussion, please.
