Factual Question regarding Muslim identity

This is actually rather complicated. First, are you referring to his father or his stepfather? His father, born in Kenya, was apparently raised Moslem, but by the time he married Obama’s mother he declared himself to be an atheist. Obama’s parents were divorced when he was two. His mother remarried. (Incidentally, she didn’t consider herself to be much of anything religiously.) Her second husband, Obama’s stepfather, was born in Indonesia. He was raised Moslem, but he hardly ever went to the mosque.

When I asked some Muslims about it, all I said was that Obama’s father was a Muslim. They were surprised to hear it. I got the impression that they had no interest in Obama.

This is purely a subjective view but that which makes a person a Muslim is a belief in God and doing good works. I cite as my authority the Koran, which reads, in an English translation, "Those who believe in God and do good works shall attain Paradise. This is in the first chapter of the Koran!
