Fallout 3

The poison dart gun that you can craft, by the way, does something like 1000 damage to a target’s legs and thus, pretty much always cripples the legs. I think.

Enjoyment of this game kinda plummetted when I reached level 20 xp.

This is when I decided to finish the main story.

I had over 6000 bottle caps left unspent.

Now I’m playing Far Cry 2 and I’m missing V.A.T.S. :frowning:

There are mods out already that will let you increase the level cap. There are also some other cool mods out there supposedly (I haven’t tried any yet myself).

Also. Even at 20 there were quite a few perks still unavailable, good ones too (ones that I would have thought I’d be allowed as a saint) I assume as I type this I didn’t satisfy other pre-requisites.

xtisme That sounds promising. I’ll look into that.
All: The OP mentioned a game called Oblivion. Do you/he mean ‘Elder Scrolls: Oblivion’?

After playing FO3 is it worth playing that? (I mistakingly thought S.T.A.L.K.E.R was that but it is a) nothing like FO3 and b) a bit of a let-down)

A lot of perks have S.P.E.C.I.A.L requirements, so even if you are the right level you can’t get them unless you have the right stats.

Definitely check it out. I linked earlier in the thread I think to a mod site.

I wouldn’t play Oblivion if I were you…while it has the same engine it’s a totally different game IMHO. I never could get into it myself, though I have a good friend who is a fanatic about the game. One good thing that can be said for it is there are a LOT of mods, both official and unofficial out there, so you could play for years without running out of things to do. The thing is, that’s what I’m hoping for Fallout 3…that the same modder community will get involved and that the company will put out expansions for the game too. I think there is a better than good chance for that and I expect to be playing Fallout 3 for years to come…until they are ready to release Fallout 4 of course.

I never thought of expansions and a sequel. That’s cheered me up.

On an unrelated note: Fawkes is pretty funny. I like it when he gets annoyed that he didn’t get to do more killing.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see expansions covering other parts of the Capital Wasteland, maybe even approaching southern Baltimore. Sort of like what Bethesda did with Morrowind.

Fawkes used to be a woman, apparently.

On deathclaws: Take them out from a distance with a sniper rifle or good accurate laser rifle sat atop a rock. Works every time. If you get jumped by one of them, don’t mess about, pull out a combat shotgun and blow its head off.

Old Olney has no buildings you can enter, but you can unexpectedly fall into the sewer when wandering around. Also there’s a bit of backstory to NukaCola via a note.

Giant Radscorpions must die. Nothing slows them down. Cripple the legs; nothing. The only thing effective against them are expensive and powerful mines; bottlecap mines and plasma mines, which I don’t like using because you get sod-all back. The swine.

Once I got the Plasma rifle (in perfect condition - thanks to my 100 repair skill) deathclaws were easy - 5 headshots in VATS. I could even quite comfortable wait for the deathclaw to see me and get close (better odds for VATS)

And then Once I got the Grim Reaper perk - even easier.

Damn…there is a plasma rifle in the game?? I must have missed that one. :frowning:

Some of the … Oh I’ve forgotten what they’re called (like ‘combine’ but that’s from Half Life  ) enemy soldiers carry them.

Pretty effective when their condition is 100. edit: Instead of piles of ash, they make piles of ‘goo’ on the floor (searchable of course)

And I have the tesla armour - also pretty good. (makes energy weapons more effective)

Enclave probably. Haven’t gotten that far in the game yet…still doing the early quests in the main line (though my guy is like 18th now).

Anyone know if the famous Gauss Rifle from earlier Fallout games is available??

-XT

Close - “Enclave”.

Sorry, xtisme, no Gauss rifles. No Gauss anything, in fact:(

It can actually be worth it, as there’s a really nice piece of armor you can only get there. Takes a bit of searching though.

The dart gun: one hit cripples the legs of any creature, even the Behemoth.

Heh. I got through one of the more annoying quests with my good character, found my reward and ran about aimlessly for a while, checking out previously unexplored parts of D.C.

Went into the Capitol Building, sat back and watched the Talons fail their assault miserably and went deeper. Found the big-ass room with the Behemoth kicking ass. So, I pulled out my shiny new weapon, the Experimental MIRV, thinking it was another Fat Man, only with more damage. I took careful aim (can’t be too careful with the mini nukes) and fired. Oops. That was 8 fucking mini nukes I threw away at once, and the damn thing spreads. I died instantly, as one of the nukes decided my careful aim would have missed the wall I was aiming past. I laughed at that.

What? Are we talking about the same giant radscorpions? One round of VATS combat with the chinese assault rifle or combat shotgun and I’m stuffing poison glands into my backpack.

No, but you can make a meelee weapon that looks like it came off Freddie Kreuger.

No way! I generally have to shoot Giant Radscorpions a hell of a lot of times to get them to die…and I generally use the Chinese Assault Rifle while doing it! I have 100 to small guns and I shoot for the head. How are you killing them with this weapon in one shot??

(now the smaller ones I can definitely kill in one VATS round)

That sucks about no Gauss Rifle. :frowning: Still, the Plasma Rifle sounds promising…I remember that one from the old games.

-XT

What is the condition of your gun(s)? How close are the radscorpians (closer = better chance of hitting)

And are you going for ONE body part (head, if the thing has a head, which I don’t think the GRS has)

I also find giant radscorpians to be not too difficult.

Have you encountered deathclaws or… there’s a ‘king…somethings’ which I forget the name of.

edit: when I use VATS I aim for the head, I’ve been effective with a 60-100cond laser rifle, and 60-100cond plasma rife (not to mention other weapons) I generally get 60-95 percent chance of hitting (though have had a lot of success between 40 and 50)

What difficult are you set at?

I can’t remember if I’m set at easy or medium, but I usually go for medium in computer games. Maybe I’m on easy and that’s why I’ve completed it too soon :frowning:

Mirelurk.

King-Mirelurk, that’s it.

Thanks FinnAgain.
