I’ve stopped using the excellent plasma gun to me by [muffled noises] in [Rmuffle Cmuffle] in favor of the awesome Waser Wifle I got from the kid in [Lmuffledmuffle]. Because it’s called a Waser Wifle.
Can’t be arsed to use spoilers, sorry.
By the end of the game, I have more ammo than I know what to do with. However, before level 10ish, I would often find myself having to use the .32 pistol or hunting rifle because I ran out of my primaries (shotgun shells, 10mm, and/or 5.56). If using Sydney’s SMG, 10mm can get scarce (and I find it amusing walking around in Tesla Armor wielding a silenced 10mm or SMG).
Helpful Hint: Shishkebob and (one of the) Flooded Sewers do not mix. I wasn’t using my eyebrows for anything anyway.
Be careful when using any sort of flaming weapon while underground. Just about every underground location has at least one broken gas line.
I don’t think my “Luck” is high enough to qualify me for the extra ammo perk.
But it’s good to know that it gets better around 10 – I think I’m only 6 or 7 at the moment. I’ve got a high Science this time around, instead of Lockpick, but I’m looting everything else lootable.
Thanks for the tips.
Oh, one more thing… is Underworld inside DC somewhere, and what general area? Something horrible happened to Megaton, and I’d like to find my favorite merchant again…
It’s in the Mall area. Hmm, so you didn’t find that merchant annoying as I did? I was hoping she’d go out with the rest of Megaton :). She had so many demands… tried to get me killed all the time, and gave little back.
Inside a museum.
Behind a really big skull thingy…

So can one become a ghoul? I hear Three-Dawg talking about ghoulification with radiation. . .
No. Although that would be a really great way to have the expansion packs go if you take the ending which is… least favorable… to the player.
Have any of you seen. . . a TREE?
Yep, he’s in the game from Fallout 2, at Oasis.
The last game though, he was just a ghoul with a bit of a tree in his head. Now he’s a tree with a bit of ghoul in it.
Yup…
And if you do what he asks and go down and shoot him in the heart you get tougher skin (barkskin…something like that). I have no idea what, if anything you get if you do what the tree leader guy or his wife ask…they were too annoying for me and I just shot the ghoul/tree thing as he asked.

The Scrounger perk isn’t available until level 8, and only requires 5 Luck.
The rewards for the Oasis quest are
Kill Harold nicely: +10 to speech (if you pass a speech check) and barkskin perk for +5% damage resistance.
Burn him. Burn the witch! Negative karma and a firefight.
Make him grow: Linden’s power armor (v. good), speech charm, sneaky hood.
Make him not grow: Missile launcher + some ammo and a coat with +1 to perception and agility.
After losing both Lucky Harith and Doc Hoff to the wilds of the wastes last game, I decided to do something about it. So I’ve given all the caravan traders and guards good armor and decent firepower. Feels a bit stupid to take a karma hit for giving them stuff, but pickpocketing is the only way.
Damn this game. Up past 2AM again.
Many times in this thread I’ve seen people refer to the music in the game using words like ‘sad’,‘eerie’,‘great’.
The only music I seem to get is that played buy the two main radio stations - enclave radio, and the other one (I forget the name) run by two [three? Four?]-dog. It all seems to be lame fifties twee music.
How am I not hearing what others are apparently hearing?
It’s all 50’s retro music, yes. And yes, it’s 3 Dog…you don’t want to put on Enclave Radio unless you like to hear a bunch of lame political speeches. If you don’t like 50’s retro music though you should probably turn off the radio, as it seems most of the music tapes got destroyed in the nuclear fire…and 3 Dog only plays the same one’s over and over. I like the songs myself, but then I like them mostly because they give the game the original Fallout feel I guess…and sometimes it’s sort of ironic and amusing to be whacking ghouls or raiders while some snappy retro song is playing.

Admittedly, I mostly listen to 3-dog (though I swear the number changed as I went along. Maybe I am mistaken) and only sampled enclave radio for the fun of listening to misguided optimism.
Three Dog makes a station ID at some point about how “One Dog ain’t enough, and Two Dogs is still too low, so it’s me, Three Dog!” That may be what you’re thinking of.
If you complete the “Agatha’s Song” quest and are nice to her, you get access to her Classical Violin Music station. And a .44 Magnum Blackhawk Revolver if you bring her a Sheet Music Book.
Give it to Dogmeat instead.
There’s also at least one vault that had a door malfunction, which resulted in the door being stuck open and ghoulification of all occpuants. That could make for an interesting expansion, have the player as someone from that vault.
Cool…you can’t get the M77, but if anyone wants to try out the experimental M88 Gauss Rifle, here is a link to the mod.
