Family Get-Togethers - A Holiday-ish MMP

LOUNE is in fine form tonight, isn’t he? Too much caffeine, maybe?

Snakes won tonight and I have two days off. Today is payday so I ordered something for Mr. SCL for Christmas.

I love Two Lumps.

Nah. Not too much caffeine at all.
rearranges furniture when everyone is asleep

Hey LOUNE baby, I’ll rearrange furniture with you.

Is it bad that I laughed when I read this?

This could be so entertaining! Well, not so much for you, Haze. . . . but still. Think of all of us (OK, maybe just me) that don’t have lives. So many questions that could be answered. Will Victorian Heroine be there? Does one exchange gifts with the parents in this situation? What does one give That Guy’s mom for Christmas? :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, OK, I’ll be good. I’ll go along with the others and say that this probably isn’t the best idea for your emotional well-being. And I’ll forgo finding out the answers to my questions. I’ll just have to find my own entertainment during Christmas. Sigh. :frowning:

Drive by… appropriate emotions to all!

Haze – another vote for “Just. Don’t.” It can’t end well.

Roo – how you doin’?

Hey…I remember you. How’s Dad?

I’m very awake and considering getting up. I figure I’ve slept close to a night’s worth. There are lots of things to do - kitchen to clean up before making a mess in it with banana bread, cookies and such. Hmmmm.

Funny comic, SCL.

LOUNE!!!

::waves, then stops to say…:

FCM, check out Igigi and Zaftique for very nice dresses in plus sizes, and some of the models are plus sized.

Interestingly enough, you invaded another dream last night. You were moving in with us with your 2 dogs - one fat rottie mix and another scraggly little white mutt. But you weren’t executed, although at some point you and your dogs disappeared and my brother and his SO were moving in instead.

Which is especially weird because said brother earns more than my sweetie and I do combined, so there’s no way he’d have to move into my basement… Anyway, it was a marginally bad night. Just after I dozed off, my MIL called, which woke me all the way up, and I got up to watch TV till I was sleepy again, which wasn’t till after 11.

So, I’m up, it’s raining, the critters have been tended to, and **FCD ** has some Nazi war movie on the TV. No idea what the plans for today, but I’m thinking some clay play might be in order.

**rosie ** - I did find a Catherine’s not too far away, but the stuff they have on their site isn’t what I’m looking for. It seems to be mostly separates, and of course, it’s still winter clothing. I’ll probably have to wait till the spring fashions are brought out.

Cutie Pie - thanks for the links - I’ve never heard of those places, so I’ll check them out.

I still hate dresses, and I hate dress shopping even more. Wonder if I can persuade them to have a blue jeans and pocket T wedding??? Perhaps I could sic Mr Swampington, Wedding Consultant, on them?? :stuck_out_tongue:

My Mum and Mr. Lissar’s Mum threatened to come in matching leopard-print slinky bias-cut halter dresses. Backless, of course. Because they were so pissed off at the Mother of the Bride dress selection. I believe they were striking against big blocky suit covered in sequins.

Neither of them are, um, petite.

The vidoe card on our computer has started making vibrating annoying noises. Sporadically. Kicking the computer doesn’t work. Mr. Lissar took everything apart last night and can’t figure out how to make it stop without removing the card.
Today I have a vicious wracking cough but still feel better. Which is good because I have to bake for the dojo Christmas party. And do some laundry and clean the livingroom a bit. Mr. Lissar suggested that if the cough’s too bad I can stay home, but damned if I’m baking for the thing and then sulking at home alone this evening. Bleh.

That’s what I always use. My buddy Jim is sitting at the bottom of my pantry right now waiting for his time to shine.

I need to go get some. I’m also out of brandy. Do you use the recipe you linked to or was that just an example?

GT

Making Christmas cookies today at my house with my MIL, and two SILs… In my very small kitchen. I got nominated because I have no kids. No idea how this is going to work. Plus I was also nominated to pick up the “basics” for baking as well. It could be an interesting day.

I best go get going!

That recipe is very similar to the one that’s Been In My Family for Generations. <snooty voice> Except our recipe calls for the vastly superior Brown-Edge Cookies that disappeared in the 1990s.</sv> Nilla wafers are an acceptable substitute, but you have to grind them down more. I don’t have a food processor, so I just mash the cookies against the bottom of a bowl with a glass.

If you do make them, they will stick to your hands as you roll them. Do not drive after making.

I mixed cocoa and powdered sugar for the “rolling powder” for the first time this year. I’ll let you know how that turned out next MMP.

Hazel-you could join us for Xmas Eve (what about your brother–why not get together with him and do a family type thing?).

Xmas day we [del]are sentenced[/del] go to my MILs.
I am off the bank, then home to do a marathon of cataloging. I just want it over with now, so the sooner I do it, the sooner it’s done.

hello to all.

I awoke to an noise this morning:click, clickthump thump click, clickthump thump . Nelly was towing the litterbox through the apartment. NOT A COOKIE JAR! More work today.

FCM, that wasn’t a mutt, I accidentally bleached Lucretia. I dreamed I was being pursued by Imperial Stormtroopers. :dubious: “This is not the [del]droid[/del] Roomba you are looking for”

Haze you have an invitation to chez rigs for Christmas Eve. This means you now officially have Christmas plans. Problem solved.

Mooooom the wedding’s in Florida. Knee length shorts, a plain tshirt and flipflops would be appropriate. :stuck_out_tongue: I say knee length shorts and a plain tshirt because it’s a wedding. One must have some sense of propriety after all.

Ok, up, caffienated, breakfasted (I cooked!) and purtified. Now we’re off to brave the maul. All shopping for presents shall be accomplished for both of us today. I have decreed it to be, so thus it shall be. Also, there’s the promise of good Chinese for lunch.

Later Y’all!

Oh, so you’re having nightmares, too?

Hopefully getting discharged from hospital tomorrow, and starting official rehab. That part I predict he’ll have no problems with – the nursing staff are already having to remind him not to try and do everything by himself yet!

We got over 2" of rain here in about 24 hours – most of it in 3 half-hour spurts. That’s the way it rains here when it does – by the bucket! At one point I had parked my car along a low bend, and when I came back less than an hour later, I could only get in from the driver’s (curb) side, and even so my pants got wet! there must have been a foot of water there, all told.

Half an hour later, of course, it was gone… which is good. every year there are a few random drains that aren’t ready for show-time; it wasn’t this one, at least.

Spaz – sounds like you have to drink those cookies of yours! Which is not a bad thing… I’m sure I would enjoy some.

Which reminds me – we’re going to be spending the week of Christmas on vacation – in London. So I’ll be gone between Dec 21 and Dec 28 (roughly). And we’ll be “celebrating” Christmas there (there’s an apartment-hotel we know there, that we keep going back to, where we can rent for a week, with full kitchen, so we can cook and even bake there), as well as just do the regular tourist stuff (museums, musical, walking around the city…)

And we’ll probably brave the crowds on Oxford street on Boxing Day (sorta, kinda like Black Friday, for those Americans who aren’t aware of it, but not quite as crazy) – we’ve come away with some really nice bargains in the past

**McUne **-- good luck. Sounds exciting and fun… not! Hopefully at least the cookies will be worth it

Good morning one and all. The coffee is brewing and soon I’ll have a cuppa joe in my hands.

My son loved his birthday presents. We got him an iPod Nano with picture and vido capability, the first season of 24 (he loves that show), and a Harvey Danger CD. He loved his presents and I’m so glad. He messed with that iPod all last night, putting music and stuff on it.

The dinner was very good too, although our chef guy didn’t do the onion volcano which was a little dissapointing. The food was good and that’s what’s important.

Li-Li, I hope you get to feeling better soon.

Well, off to drink some coffee and maybe play a little WoW.

Aw, rigs, thanks for the invite. Christmas Eve probably won’t be a problem though; most of my friends will be around for the day, although again most of them are leaving that evening/night. My brother has something going on at his church on Christmas Day - I suppose I could go there, but I don’t know any of the church members and I really don’t like the atmosphere of Korean churchs at Christmas (it’s hard to describe).

Roo, you raise some interesting questions! Some of them I’ve wondered myself. I’m pretty sure VH won’t be there. Her family lives fairly close to Chicago and they’re big on doing family stuff on holidays. Anyway, there’s no way That Guy would have invited me if she were going as well. He’s not that brazen. At least, I think he isn’t.

Don’t worry guys, I’ll figure something out. My godparents also leave near Chicago; I guess I could invite myself over there, assuming they’re not going anywhere for the holidays. I think the problem is that part of me actually DOES want to accept That Guy’s invitation, because it’s something what “normal” friends would do, and at this point normalcy is sadly lacking in whatever semblance of a relationship we have. But the rational part of me knows it’s probably a bad idea, unless he miraculously breaks up with VH between now and Christmas.

Anyway, today I SHALL get work done. :: blows get-well kisses to LiLi ::

Or not. Just got a call from Mr. Cheerio asking if we wanted to join him and his girlfriend at a crafts fair. :smack:

I can work tomorrow. Really.

I’ve cleaned the kitchen, obtained missing ingredients for apricot-coconut squares, obtained Bourbon and brandy, gotten cash, and am stopping at home to eat lunch, then stop to fill up the car, go out to get a few gifts, then come back to bake.
