We left Houston around 9:00 am, after stopping for a delicious Waffle House breakfast. The trip was uneventful, except for having to convince Dad that the way he’s been going to his hometown (San Angelo) for over 60 years was almost an hour out of the way. We got to the hotel and checked in. They had us fixed up very nicely - Dad had a smoking room two doors down from ours, and my brother had a room right around the back, back-to-back with Dad’s room. He had reserved a suite!
We showered and changed, grabbed our suits and headed over to my cousins’ house. Absolutely beautiful! I wish I had gotten pictures of the inside. They’ve redone it all. It is an historic home. My cousin Bonnie is a Turkish rug dealer, so has antique rugs all over the house, and also has millions of tchotchkes. Amazing! Her husband is an attorney.
We swam and partied and ate Mexican food Friday night, then took Dad back to the hotel. My brother, sister-in-law, and Mr Rebo and I retired to their suite and drank until 1:30 or so. About that time we decided we weren’t going to the Indian pictograph site - it was gonna be too freakin’ hot and we would be too hung over. The next morning, I walked outside and it was a beautiful day! But we had decided not to go, so took Dad to breakfast and let Brother and wife sleep in.
I came back and called Bonnie. She fussed at me and told me I would miss out on the opportunity of a lifetime! So we hurriedly (and guiltily!) arranged to go, and had another family member come pick up Dad to take him to the golf tournament. Did I mention this is the annual tournament that all three brothers have played in forever? The oldest brother has passed away, but here’s a pic of the old guys (Dad is on the left), and another with Dad’s brother and his wife.
We got to the site around 10:30. (It was about 30 miles out of town.) The old and the young got to ride in the four wheeler.Hostess Bonnie is on the left. The tour began with Stop 1. Zoom. (Read the notes I wrote on each zoom.) Stop 3. Stop 3 zoom. Stop 4. Zoom. Stop 5. Zoom. Stop 6. Symbol for the winter solstice.Painting showing the winter solstice phenomenon. Stop 7. Zoom. Stop 9. Enough, huh? It was so very hot. But gorgeous! This little guy was very well behaved, though. He’s my third cousin, or something. Mr Rebo and me at the end. When the cars were coming to pick us up, I said, “Yay for AC!” The 82 year old land-owner and tour-guide said, “She’s not in tune with nature, is she?” Heh.
So back to the pool and a barbecue. It was fabulous!
Other pictures of assorted family. Me and SIL. Dad and my brother. My cousin Anna the Fish. She barely got out of the water!
Ok - enough boring family photos. Have a wonderful day, all!
