My family is looking for somewhere to have a family reunion (50ish people) within a two hour or so drive of LA next summer. Ideal would be somewhere near the beach where we could rental 5 or 6 cabins, some of which would have kitchens. No need for it to be fancy or upscale (well, within limits, obviously).
Anyone have any good suggestions?

Crystal Cove State Park has some historic cottages for rent but they sell out fast. Looks like they book six months out. These are cottages right on the beach and very desirable.
Almost any beach town (Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Hermosa Beach, Venice Beach, etc.) has weekly or daily house rentals within two blocks of the beach. Some of the “party houses” can accommodate 3 families. Google “cabin rental beach orange county” or Southern California or wherever.
You may have better luck with finding several units at the same property with weekly rental condos/apartments.
Another possibility is one of the big hotels that has detached cabins. But the hotels that come to mind are probably too expensive, like the Ritz Carlson in Laguna Niguel or the Hilton Waterfront Beach Hotel in Huntington Beach. There are a lot of reasonably priced hotels, but I don’t have any recommendations.
Both north of L.A. (north L.A. County, Ventura County, Santa Barbara County) and south of L.A. (south L.A. county, Orange County, San Diego County) are nice areas that should suit you.
