Family Style Tofu

When I was in SoCal I liked ‘family style tofu’ from a Chinese place near the office. I’m having a bit of difficulty finding a recipe. Basically (IIRC) it’s fried tofu, green bell peppers, red bell peppers, sliced celery, onions, and probably minced garlic, in a brown sauce.

Anyone have a recipe?

No TNT recipe, but could it be a Taiwanese dish?

That looks pretty close.

I wish you luck in your quest. I’ve never mastered cooking anything Asian. It never tastes remotely right.

You know what really helps? Two things, actually. MSG (I think sold in the US as Accent flavor enhancer), just a pinch, and Shaoxing rice wine, just a splash. Adding these improved my Asian dishes exponentially.

You don’t tend to see them much in recipes, according to Asian friends, because they’re just such standard seasoning, you don’t have to write it down.

Try something Thai next time - there’s an easy way to get your confidence back.
