Famous guitars that would sell for more than Dave Gilmour's black Strat

I’ve heard that said about baseball memorabilia, too. Baseball itself is a shrinking market and the collectors are rapidly dying off.

It is an interesting question for sure. There are a number of videos on YouTube where relative youngsters experience things like classic rock for the first time and are favorably impressed by at least some of it. But it is hard to tell just how contrived those may be( some sorta seem like it ).

Just anecdotally it seems like musical horizons, at least popular musical horizons, are broader than they were when I was young. A lot of parents seem very interested in exposing their kids to their favorite music. I’m not sure if stuff by Miles Davis or Booker White is getting passed on at a high rate, but it seems the like the Beatles might be.

There’s only 1 playable guitar left in the world made by Strativari, I’d bet that’s a contender

I saw an interesting show on Terry Kath and Chicago. His daughter tracked down the long-missing guitar he played frequently.

They didn’t throw numbers around on the program, but hinted it was worth a butt-load.

Only took about a year to get an answer…Kurt Cobain’s acoustic sold for $6 million. Kinda surprising.

Still a ways to go to catch up with the Vieuxtemps Guarneri violin.

It was played by Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman and Yehudi Menuhin. Sold for over $16 million in 2013, loaned for lifetime use to another violinist, Anne Meyers.

Probably the perceived value of such a historic instrument was at least as important in determining price as who played it.
