Famous people we don't know the identities of

I hadn’t heard about the ID. I certainly looks like him though.

The little girl who died in the Hartford Circus Fire was finally identified in 1991 as Eleanor Cook.http://articles.latimes.com/1991-03-24/news/mn-1291_1Circus-Fire Link is broken but you can find her by googling “ID Hartford Circus Fire Victim.”

How about the artists who painted on the caves at Lascaux? The paintings are famous so if we knew them wouldn’t they also be so?

Care to elaborate? She said he was a stranger and the kiss was unwelcome… Is that concept beyond your grasp?

True, but I think her family disputed it. And from the description, it seems likely that another body belonged to Cook, but was too badly burned to tell for certain.

The Crying Frenchman comes to mind.

The wiki linked in that thread claims his name is M. Jerôme Barzetti and that the footage was taken in Marseille, not Paris as is commonly thought.

Peter the Painter - we have various namsed but are not sure he even existed.

I was going to suggest the mute “Piano Man” who turned up on a beach in England a few years back, but apparently he was identified after a few months. I must have missed that!

The person responsible for Toynbee Tiles.

The makers of the documentary Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles name who they believe it is but it’s not 100% conclusive.

Good stuff - I liked that movie.

That reminds me - aren’t the people behind the may day mysteries still anonymous?

I was thinking about the Mayday Mystery too. I’ve read a bit about it over the years but I don’t know a lot about it.

Who’s that guy that turned up sleeping behind a Burger King with severe amnesia? I think he took a name with the initials BK.

Well, you’ve sent me out on a reading excursion and I reluctantly thank you.
It would be so much more satisfying to know that they were sure.

The story is heartwrenching and there’s something about at least naming her that would help me and perhaps others feel she was properly acknowledged in her untimely death.

I have never read anything suggesting that the woman in the picture said the kiss was unwelcome. Is there a cite you can link to?

Certainly by the number of people in Bristol pubs who claim to know Banksy’s identity, it would seem to be common knowledge. Though they also tend to imply that they are personal friends with him, sadly.

From here:

She has said that she wasn’t really bothered by it, but that it was a complete surprise.

Technically, yes, it was some form of assault or battery (I don’t know the exact legal term). Which strikes me funny because it’s such an iconic photo. I had seen that picture all my life and just assumed they were a couple.

The killer of Lizzie Borden’s parents.

The killer of Nichole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

The killer of JonBenet Ramsey.

My error in quoting. I was addressing Guinastasia.

Two of those anyway.

The identity of Ares, one of the Robinson Crusoes of Warsaw that spent his time ambushing German soldiers. By himself.

Read under “Living conditions” in the wiki I linked.

Famous? Maybe not. Should be!
