What famous person(s) who(m) is/are currently deceased, do you miss a great deal and wish they were still living?
I terribly miss Vincent Price. No one will ever fill this wonderful man’s shoes, as the finest, and most fun, horror-film genre actor. I grew up watching all the old VP/Roger Corman horror flicks. I am 30 yrs old, and I still haven’t seen all of VP’s films. I am so glad he got the honor of starring in Edward Scissorhands, as one of his final films. No one else could ever so conceivably play the role of Ed’s creator.
VP never was a disappoinment to watch, as he always brought a certain endearing familiarity to any of his roles, despite if the film itself was horrible. (Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs, comes to mind) No matter how rotten his character was, or how silly (remember Egghead in Batman? ), he always seemed to project an image of truly enjoying his work, and made his audience feel like a dear old friend. I miss you, Mr. Price, wherever you are. Your films will always be cherished.
The only contemporary genre actors who come reasonably close to walking in VP’s shoes, are Bruce Campbell, and Robert Englund, but there will never be another Vincent Price. May he rest in peace, or “pieces” if he prefers.
::::in the background, I can almost hear pipe organ music playing Bach’s Tocatta & Fugue in D minor:::::eek: Oh wait a minute, that’s the CD player… whew:rolleyes:
I may come up with tons more, but the first one that pops into my head is Bradley Nowell from Sublime.
From the first time I heard What I Got on the radio, I knew I was hearing genius. I immediately went out and bought that CD, listened to it in its entirety, then went out again and bought the rest of Sublime’s CD’s. About a week later I learned the Bradley had died months before. I wasn’t completely overtaken with emotion, but he was the first singer-songwriter that I’d heard in a long time which really stirred me. I heard tons of talent coming out of him and I was excited to hear more.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again - his death was a crying fucking shame. Such a waste.
Stevie Ray Vaughan. Like Jack Batty feels about Bradley Nowell, I feel about Stevie. His guitar playing was out of this world and I want MORE, MORE, MORE and can’t get it.
Madeline Khan, Dusty Springfield, Charlie Chaplin, The Three Stooges, John Lennon, the lady from the “Where’s the beef” commercials, and especially Walter Matthau.
