Famous Places You'd Like To Visit Because Of TV, Movies or Records

Mom’s friend went there for a while, and said the folks are -exactly- as excentric as they are in the book. Makes me wanna go there some time, too.

Only other place is Dead Man’s Curve, from the song of the same name; I wrote a short piece of fiction based on the song a year or so back, and since then the location has always been stuck in the back of my mind.

You still won’t see herds of Wildebeeste sweeping majestically across the plains.

And even Manuel has now moved to “Coronation Street”.

I always wanted to go to Castle Howard because of the miniseries “Brideshead Revisited” (and am finally going this fall).

I would also love to visit Portmeirion entirely because it’s where “The Prisoner” was filmed. Someday…

So many…

The Greek island of Skopelos where “Mamma Mia!” was filmed because it was so breathtakingly beautiful.

The highlands of Scotland to visit the birthplace of Jamie Fraser from the “Outlander” historical fiction series.

The English country estates so I can see how Mr. Darcy lived.

I’ve always wanted to throw something off the Tallahatchee Bridge because of “Ode to Billy Joe.”

*'m looking at retiring near Asheville, SC where “Last of the Mohicans” was filmed because it was so beautiful.

Thanks for the catch. I forgot I also went to Haight/Ashbury specifically because of the hippie movement.

I can’t think of any off-hand, but I can think of some places I went to specifically because of stuff like that …

The cafe from the movie “Amelie” in Paris. I saw it in the guidebook and we decided to head in that direction to see it and a couple of other places. It was smaller than it looks onscreen and was so crowded that we didn’t go in.

After reading “Devil in the White City”, I really wanted to go and take a look at the old 1893 worlds fairgrounds (now just Jackson Park) just to see what it looked like now and to be where all of that stuff happened. It’s crazy that the place looks so completely different - you can’t even tell that most of it even existed. Outside of the Fine Arts Building (which is now the Museum of Science and Industry) only some things like the wooded island still exist. The rest is all gone and lost to history.

In the final scene of Point Break, Reno goes to where a tremendous storm will be producing huge waves, waves so big Bode can’t resist and will surely follow. This is set to occur at Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia. I was to spend a week in Melbourne so I planned a trip to the Great Ocean Road that included a half day for Bells.

Bells Beach was beautiful and watching the rollers come in you’re pounded with a sound not unlike a series of approaching freight trains, but it wasn’t the beach from the movie.

I see via [Wiki](Although the final scene of the film Point Break is set at Bells Beach, the scene was not filmed there. Bells Beach is a straight stretch and the beach in the film is a cove with pine trees atop a hill. The actual location of the film was a beach called Indian Beach, in Ecola State Park, located in Cannon Beach, Oregon, USA. Bells Beach is visited in the 1966 documentary film The Endless Summer.) that the actual beach where the movie was filmed was at Ecola S.P. near Cannon Beach, Or. Coincidentally, I’d visited Cannon and Ecola a couple of years prior.

Still, I’d have stopped in at Bells regardless. It is what was alluded to as the best possible and it was tres cool.

Every year when I watch the Tour De France stages in the French Alps I’m in awe of them and would love to live there for a few years.

Another vote for New Zealand after watching LOTR trilogy. Before that, I had no desire whatsoever to visit.

I became obsessed with Ireland by the view shown through the window of Joe Elliott’s (of Def Leppard) home in the “Miss You In A Heartbeat” video. Just a beautiful view that really captured me…

The video opens with the view:

A year or so later, I stumbled across the show Ballykissangel on PBS and that just strengthened my desire to go there.

Both places are near each other and if I ever manage to get to Ireland, I have to go see Avoca (where they filmed Ballykissangel) along with just exploring County Wicklow, as well as checking out Stepaside, where Joe Elliott is alleged to live.

One of the other places I’m visiting this fall is Lyme Park, which stood in for Pemberly in the 1996 P&P (with the pond out front for Darcy to jump into). It’s just outside Manchester if you’re ever in that neighborhood.

I recently came back from my summer vacation, and on the way to visit my brother in Albuquerque I stopped by the Fort Worth Water Gardens mostly because of its prominence in Logan’s Run.

Any hotel room containing Samantha Brown.

Oh yeah, there’s the time I did a little Dom diggin’ myself.

The urls in the links are broken, so Fandango and Dom.

I have a pretty strong yen to go to the Florida Keys, but not because of Bogart & Bacall. I want to go because of Callahan’s Key by Spider Robinson. The stuff he describes on the trip south sounds wonderful, and I’d love to see some of the smaller Keys based on his descriptions.

The NYT had an article in the Travel section a few years ago on PEI tourism tied to the Anne of Green Gables series. It’s big business. Apparently a lot of young Japanese women are absolutely gaga for Anne.

Add me to the Cardiff list. I watch too much Doctor Who and Torchwood.

When I moved to Los Angeles, I made sure that I visited Seinfeld’s apartment… Man, I love New York!
