According to www.washingtonpost.com , Tom Landry just died.
As a Redskins fan, I always detested the Cowboys, of course. But Landry was a great coach.
As a Cowboys fan, I always liked Tom Landry and was very saddened to hear the news. Makes me loathe that lousy owner we’re stuck with even more.
And for you Giants fans: don’t forget that Landry was a former player! Played in the “Greatest Game Ever”, IIRC…

Oops, I forgot what thread I was in and I posted inappropriately here. I’m sorry–I don’t mean to dishonor Tom Landry’s memory or anything.
Talk about ironic careers: When he was a defensive coach/player for the Giants, he invented the 4-3 formation. It worked so well, other teams used it. When he was hired as the Cowboys’ head coach, he had to devise an offense to overcome the 4-3!
Think about this: As a head coach, Tom Landry did not have a winning season until his seventh season. And then after that, he put together a record 20 consecutive winning seasons. How many team owners and fans today have the kind of patience and faith to wait SIX YEARS for a winning season? How many great coaches were fired too soon?

RTFirefly, I’m a long-time Cowboy fan ands I want to say I felt like you when George Allen passed. Each coach brought out the best in his opponent, didn’t he? Hated him on the field, admired him off of it.
And now I have to go talk about Charles Schulz. I’m stunned that two different men who gave me so much entertainment and joy would pass away on the same day.
