Oh, I’m not saying that there are NO great employees or staff members at these places, I myself have done my share of “joe-jobs.” But the thing is often times there are people who have them that suck. (For the record, I never special order anything, I’ve learned to pick stuff off an be happy about it!)

I would just like to say that I agree with most of you, but I must add in defense of myself and my friends (we are 17): not all kids are like that. Many of you have pointed out that there is usually one kid doing the job right. I, and my friends, are usually “that kid,” so please remember not to stereotype us because of the actions of others in our age bracket. Of course, I know none of you will do this, but I just thought a reminder would make my bad day a little better.
Thanks for your patience with us.

Completely off topic, but get your fast food from someone who is high whenever possible. The people who are high are hungry. Since they are making the food, they’ll make it to the highest standards, because that’s how they would want to eat it. There’s a guy at the local Taco Bell named Julio, from Dominica or something, and he’s always stoned, and he makes the BEST tacos ever.

We are the children of the Eighties. We are not the first “lost generation” nor today’s lost generation; in fact, we think we know just where we stand - or are discovering it as we speak.
And please be a nice customer. I’ve heard too many stories from former fast food workers (who were very qualified) about how they got revenge on the surly, angry customer that gave them grief.
Yeay to that. Always be nice to folks that serve your food, fast food on up. If you can’t be grateful for your sustenance, you ain’t right at the root.
You know, I think most of the problem are the customers. The one who complain to the register how the prices are ridiculously high, it’s not as fast as it used to be, whaddya mean you don’t have mineral water, my Sprite has too many bubbles in it, how dare they stop making the McDLT I really liked that burger. The person who thinks “fast food” means “instantaneous”. And of course the occasional two heart-beats-from-death person who claims how everything was much nicer back in her day. Yeah, granny. The universe went downhill after Lawrence Welk died.
Shit, it’s the customers that made me cease to give a shit when I had this kind of job. Customer is always right, my ass.
LOL, Alpha, you’re right…but just don’t ever get a job at a movie theater; as far as I know there are no “fast-food snobs” yet, so at least you’re spared from that.

Hey, one of those guys is my cousin. Last I heard they were back home, playing soccer and working back at the Bell when they needed cash. Before that, of course, they spent a couple of years tooling around in the VW bus.
Small world, huh?
That was pretty funny MissDavis.
Ah, so many sterotypes, so little time. Yes our fastfood restaurants ar filled with dim bulb high school students and the dregs of society (come on who else is attracted to 6 bucks an hour?). Then again I have waited tables from Pizza Slut to a very upscale country club and guess what ? Stupidity is not a trademark of the rich or poor, it exists in many forms. “Its taking a lot longer than we thought.” My advise to this thread is : speak slowly and clearly at drive through windows, and ALWAYS check the bag before you drive off. To quote a “Lethal Weapon” movie : “they screw you at the drive through, they know you are gonna be miles away before you know you are screwed.” By the way this is such a bachelor thread, none but us use fast food as much. I am guilty of both, I admit it.
Something I don’t think anyone has mentioned is that the average age of Management has dropped too. Of the people I know that worked at McDs and Taco Bell, not one has failed to tell me a story about management’s drug habits or tendency to date underage employees. The attitute goes all the way up too… McDonalds doesn’t care if you don’t eat there. You cannot possibly make enough waves to cause a dent in the number of brainwashed zombies that will flock to the toys and “food” they serve there. Personally, I believe that if you eat at McD’s you deserve what you get. Three bucks for a meal, no tip… christ, you haven’t paid for the right to complain. No one intelligent would want to work there unless maybe they were a high school dropout and knows the only way they’ll ever make a decent wage is to try to get into management.
If you want good service, go to somewhere staffed by mexicans. It’s a sad fact, but most of them are so scared of being deported that they will work their asses off. Too bad there’s no way to inspire fear in an American kid.

I have to agree that alot of times the customers are pains in the ass, because they are always right even when they are wrong!!
McDonald’s ,Taco Bell and other fast food places do not make tips. We do make them at Tim Hortons in Canada. I believe that you get what you pay for, but I don’t think anyone deserves a tip if they give poor service! I have alot of regular customers and they have grown accustomed to the level of service we provide, I know most of their orders (as do all the staff) and we usually have it ready for them when they get to the counter. As a result we get great tips!! We make enough in tips to compensate for the lower wages. The regular crew actually average more money per hour than a bank teller or a call center customer service rep.
So if you know you can’t/don’t get the service that you feel you deserve at McD’s the why don’t you go somewhere else? Most sit down restaurants around here have express lunch menus at a competitive price. Go where you will get the service you want. If people keep going to where they get bad service, then I think you deserve what you get.
heheh, true. I never would be complaining about this if it was only once a week or so but, since my divorce, it is too much of an effort to cook for just me so i usually eat cereal or a bowl of SpaghetiO’s or…fast food.

OK, Homer!
Sheesh, c’mon Cecil, help this guy out…
“It is now proved beyond doubt that smoking is one of the leading causes of statistics.”
Also, yes, I do realize that I can go somewhere else if I want better service. Believe it or not, I figured that one out all by my lonesome. My point in posting this was to demonstrate my anger at the situation, see what people thought were the reasons for the problem and to hear other’s opinions on the subject.
Oh yes, I also don’t believe that simply because the food is cheap, that is any reason for me not to expect at least decent service. This is especially true in light of all the false advertising the fast food chains propagate. I don’t feel like there is any “price” I should have to pay to complain either.
Thanks for the advice anyway
“It is now proved beyond doubt that smoking is one of the leading causes of statistics.”
This whole “If ya don’t like it, don’t go there!” attitude is just so shitty! This is the reason the whole industry is so screwed in the first place. People just don’t give a damn! What a cop out. This is not a small, localized problem here. This fast food thing is a symptom of a much greater evil. I don’t know what it is, maybe the death of responsibility or work ethic, but I am sick of the rapidly decreasing level of customer service EVERYWHERE!
OK, I’m gonna go have a beer and chill out now…Sorry, too many shots in my Mocha this morning…
Sometimes reality is racist. 3/4 of the mexicans I’ve known working in food service were here illegally. All of them worked their asses off. One manager I talked to said that she used threats of deportation to encourage hard work. If the conclusions I draw from this are rascist, then I’m happy to admit to being a rascist.
As for “If you don’t like it don’t eat there”, tell me a better solution. Personally, I look at a place that serves low quality food and employs low quality people, and I don’t expect to have a high quality experience.
I’ll use my own job as another example… I make $11 an hour fixing computers. While that’s a good amount for a customer service job, it’s bupkes for a computer tech. Frankly, I’m only there because they’re paying my training. I’m one of the few decent techs you’re ever going to get, because once a tech is decent, they’re going to split from this job. How good is my customer service level? As good as it takes to not get fired. That’s it. I’m not being paid enough to take abuse from callers. I’m not being paid to put my numbers at risk to go the extra mile for a customer. I get paid based on the number of calls I take, not based on how many people I make happy. And it’s like this throughout my industry. People who deal with the public generally aren’t paid well, generally aren’t treated well, and to me, it’s surprising when service is good, not vice versa.
Blah, I’m at work and cranky, I should shut up now.
