Fast Times at Ridgemont High and the Led Zeppelin aphrodisiac

This is painfully trivial but…

During the Movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High when the ticket scalper Mike Damone is giving dating tips to his buddy Mark, he tells him to put on side two of Led Zeppelin IV and that will help him get lucky on his date.

However later when they cut away to the scene and Mark has Stacy in is car do they have Led Zeppelin 2 playing in the stereo? Did anyone else ever notice that? It always bugged me out how a movie that seemed so in touch with its generation would make such a bonehead mistake.
Does anyone have any DOPE on that??

Thump…Thump…Thump…
That’s my skull dude… I’m Wasted!!!

Actually, it’s side ONE of Led Zeppelin IV, and they’re playing “Kashmir” from Physical Graffiti in the car.

Maybe he was saving ZOSO for when they got home, or something.

I always thought it was intentional, and goes to show just how ‘uncool’ Ratner really was. He couldn’t even get THAT right.

I always thought it was ajoke too, in that Ratner is so inept he plays “Kashmir” which isn’t exactly a song to set the mood. Well, it made me laugh my ass off at least.

That has always bugged me in the movie. Well until just recently when I decided that the message was that the guy was just a cultural idiot. At least about classic rock.

What sigmundex said. I just didn’t figure it out for a long time. Heh.

I tried this when I was dating as a teen.
Sombody stole my car stereo. :frowning:

And here I must admit…side 2 was playing for me…first kiss to Misty Mountain Hop

Ah, can’t help wondering where Mary is now…

It is “side 1” of Led Zep IV, which has Stairway on it, and Rutner does play Physical Graffiti. The screenplay is by Cameron Crowe, who actually covered Led Zeppeling for Rolling Stone magazine (the kid in almost famous is based on his own youthful experiences), and certainly knew what he was doing in having Rutner play the wrong CD.

Bah, that was inarticulate. I mean that Mike Damone recommends Led Zep IV but Rutner plays Physical Grafitti instead. Since the screenplay is by Crowe, I don’t doubt for one second that it’s a wink to Zep fans that Rutner grabbed the wrong CD.

Hey! My first kiss was to Misty Mountain Hop!

I’m not Mary though, sorry.

They had CDs in 1982? (and in car stereos?)

I know you probably meant to say “tape” here. Sorry, just couldn’t resist.

Heh, CDs.

In FTaRH.

I think not.

Kashmir is one of THE great shagging songs.

Owl
Showing his age.

As is Misty Mountain Bop.

Damn!

Mary would be a great doper, too…there just aren’t enough women who would put “I love physics” under their picture in the high school yearbook!

Now I’ve probably TOTALLY given myself away if she’s reading

Ha. Caught me out on the CD thing. It must have been a cassette, or (better yet) an 8 Track.

i believe damones quote was

and then they cut to rat driving stacy to dinner…there was no making out…its just them driving to dinner with kashmir playing…so the time for zep 4 would be later not at the time talked about in this thread

I would have felt a lot more romantic to Kashmir, so in this case I think Rutner did the right thing

This thread is “ten years gone,” but…

“Misty Mountain Hop” is on Side 2 of Led Zeppelin IV. You guys are doing it wrong, too. Damone specifically recommended Side 1.

 And I think that pretty much has been covered already?
