Fastest cars on the road?

What is the fastest street legal car made today?

What is the fastest street legal car in regular production (i.e. assembly line) built today?

What is the fastest ‘luxury’ car made today?

Do you mean fastest max speed or best 0-60 acceleration?

BTW, I think the Barabus TKR is the fastest street legal car in the world.

That car is quite possibly a fake, lots of noise but no substance. All the info is according to Barbarus, who don’t even seem to be able to keep their info website open.

The Ultima GTR http://www.ultimasports.co.uk/ and http://www.ultimacars.com/ seems more substantial a claimant at the moment,

I guess either way, covering both.

I think it’s safe to say that the Bugatti is likely the fastest car that is street legal.

Bugatti

It was engineered to be the fastest. The fact that it has a speed governor (at something like 238 mph) because the tire manufacturer won’t take any responsibility above that speed says something.

I saw one the other day down in South Beach, an absolutely beautiful car. so I guess this would probably cover both the fastest street legal car and fastest luxury car.

How about the fastest car in common production?

Nope fastes Luxury car is the Bentley Continental Flying Spur, now that is Luxury and Fast.

Fastest ‘normal’ production car gets into all sorts of problems in defining what you mean by normal and whether you want to know fastest 0-60, fastest 1/4 mile highest top speed or whatever. And whether you allow after market modifications.

Your Bently top speed (according to your cite) is 195 mph. Car & Driver claims to have driven the Bugatti at over 250 mph (they overrode the governor). By comparison, the Bently is a snail.

Define “production”. The Callaway Corvette Sledgehammer hit 255mph in testing in 1992, and you can still order one if you send Reeves Callaway a ZR-1. However, it’s a heavily modified version of a road car- still street-legal, but I wouldn’t call it a production car.

Otherwise, it’s the Bugatti Veyron which is artificially limited to 253mph.

If by “normal” you mean theoretically available in unlimited numbers, the Koenigsegg CCR will do 240ish, but isn’t street-legal in the US.

I should have clarified this a LITTLE more. By production, I mean a car that is made for the masses, i.e. Porsche (exluding the GT), Mercedes (excluding the MacLaren), etc.

So is the Bugatti or Bentley faster? According to most sites the Bugatti definitely hits a higher speed, although there is a slight price difference between the two.

I have no answer at this time but wanted to say that I didn’t think there was such a thing as a former Marine.

If you’re exluding the Porsche Carrera GT and Mercedes SLR McLaren because they’re not “made for the masses”, then the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Flying Spur are out of the picture as well. They’re all in the same class (although the Veyron is certainly at the top of the heap as far as price goes).

That said, the Bugatti is definitely faster than the Bentley, both in terms of top speed and 0-60 acceleration.

No dispute here at all on that point, but for Luxury a Bentley makes a BMW 7 series look like a Lada. (it is also the fastest sedan, at least last time I looked up this stat).

Fastes affordable car say under $50,000 you find many cars top speeds are limited to 150 or 155 mph electronically. And the best accelerators don’t have the best top speeds like the Aerial Atom.

If you’re willing to count the MB CLS as a sedan, This is the fasted sedan

So the speed limit in Germany is 350km/h? 362.4km/h is unsafe, but 350km/h isn’t?

No, there is no such thing as an EX-Marine, which is why the use the word FORMER. They teach you that at boot camp. The only EX’s are those who were dishonorably discharged. Analyze the difference between EX and FORMER. “No, that is not my ex-husband, it is my formal husband.”

The 2006 CLS55 and 2007 CLS63 are awesome cars, depending on which options and packages you get. What the car you are referring to is the CLS with modifications done to it by Brabus, so it probably wouldn’t count. You can always refer to the which is a 612 hp V12 HP engine available in the S and CL series cars. I have seen people put in chips that allow it to achieve over both 1000 hp and 1000 lb ft of torque, but you can probably modify any car to do the like.

Slight hijaak:

FormerMarineGuy, you seem to be fairly knowledgable about these kinds of things, I am thinking about picking up a 1990 MB 500SL, 66,000kms (41,000 miles I guess), grey and mint inside/out. Are there any issues or problems with these things I should know about? How extravagant i the maintanance? The car, being 15 years old, will probably have a few issues that need fixing, I am budgeting around $1500-2000 for repairs right off the bat, is this reasonable? I’ve read all the online and wikipedia sources, but I can always use more opinions.

First of all, how much are you paying for it? Although I do not have access to Canada for values of car, I can give you a value for the overall average for the United States at the auction, which is 10k. Most dealers would probably sell it for around 13999, so anything lower is a good buy.

The problem WILL lie with repairs to the car. We had a 1991 500SL here on our lot with 47,000 miles sold 100% AS-IS. We knew (and disclosed) to the consumer that it needed work to it (even though it looked perfect and drove perfect). You can assume you will pay about 8-9000 dollars to fix this car to make it perfect, NO MATTER WHAT.

The car is Japanese, total landed cost here for me will be about CAD$15,000. This is about the same as the US price, but right now in Calgary there is a major case of car price inflation. Autotrader lists 4 in Calgary, all with higher mileage, all for over CAD$25,000. I thought it would be a pretty good deal, until I read this:

Uh, Eight to Nine THOUSAND Yanqui dollars?! You cannot be serious, the stupid car itself isn’t worth that much, I’m paying $5000 just for customs and shipping.

Maybe I need to reconsider this.
