I’m going on a trip next Thursday and just realized that my passport expired in 2000! What’s the fastest and cheapest way for me to renew my passport? Thanks! (Btw, I’m in NYC if that matters)
The fastest way generally isn’t the cheapest.
You can find details at www.travel.state.gov. Given your schedule, go to the nearest passport office and BEG!
Yep, I think you’re going to pay through the nose. I hope you are in a city with a passport office-- once we had to drive from Portland to Seattle the morning before the day we were flying out because they hadn’t processed one in the normal time, and their phone system is designed to be. . . highly not useful, and expensive (you have to pay 5 bucks each time you call to ask a question or something, and then only get machines often. UGH. Good luck.
The major passport offices can do same-day service - my husband and his father-in-law had to do this once - but expect it to take all day and involve a fairly high fee. Read up on what you need to bring along, and go stand in line. I’d recommend doing it ASAP (tomorrow if possible), in case you’re told it can’t be completed that day due to having a lot of other people there who realized much the same thing that you did.
