Ever tried it for quick weight loss? I have been doing it since February and have lost 41 pounds as of this post. (I started at 245). It’s kinda my own invention. In addition to eating only every other day, when I do eat, I keep my carb intake below 20 grams a day. I ride my bike about 50 miles a week and have a fairly active job.
I know my lab values probably look like shit, but I sure do feel good and even though it was tough going at first, I am now use to the routine and eating has become a luxury rather than a necessity for me.
Your thoughts?
Thanks
Quasi
How much did you weigh before? 41 pounds in 3 or so months is kind of drastic…
I think you’d be better off eating sensibly daily, and continuing to get a lot of regular exercise. The rotation of fasting/nonfasting constantly has your body’s metabolism jumping around trying to accomodate circumstances, and you run the risk of hypoglycemia and reducing muscle mass if your body kicks into catabolism, which it might with that type of pattern.

At 51, Qadgop (Jesus! Would you consider a “u” between that Q and a??? :D), I am SO tired of losing, gaining ad nausea…
This time, I gave away all of the “bigger” sizes of clothes I wore with the intent of never returning to the need of “needing them”. It has been a big help in re-thinking my “self”.
Doc, I just need to lose this blubber, and then I will go back to eating sensibly, okay?
As a doctor, don’t you sometimes think, “What the hell, if it works for him, then I’m happy”?
Just wanna say also, that I think you are an asset to this board, and I enjoy and look forward to your posts/answers.

It’s the junior varsity version of Ramadan.
No sweat Quasi (jeez, can’t you lose the u? I can’t get accustomed to using it in your name!). I’ve been on the same rollercoaster you’re on, and I’m currently in an inflationary stage after over 3 years of steady state, so I sympathize. If it works for you, great. But you did want to know the drawbacks.
And please just call me Qadgop. I only post the MD part when I think it’s relevant to the subject material, or when my ego gets out of control.
Is doing respiratory therapy an aerobic activity? If so, you’re lucky to have such a job! Much easier to burn fat with aerobic exercise!
And make sure you’re getting enough fiber! Fiber is nature’s way of providing exercise for the colon. Right now, my colon is my strongest organ!

Well, it isn’t for most RT’s, but I make it one since I am the only RT on duty in my little hospital. I work ER, ICU, Med-Surg and we also have a 100 bed nursing facility with Rehab attached to us, so that’s a lotta walking for me.
Twice a week, I eat a huge salad with plenty of dry mushies, broccoli and cauliflower, so that must take care of the fiber. I also take a bunch of supplements, so all in all I think I’m okay. I appreciate your advice!

I am the only RT on the night shift (7p-7a)
