I was at dinner with a couple of friends. After the meal, one announced he was craving sweet food whereupon the other said ‘ah, your meal must have been high in fat.’ He claimed he had read somewhere that you will crave sweet food after fat food.
Does anyone know if there is any truth to this, and if so, why?
Ah - it was Thai, a noodle dish. Indeed high in carbohydrates.
I crave dessert after most evening meals, but they’re not usually high in fat. I assumed I was just so used to having dessert that if I didn’t, I felt like I hadn’t finished the meal.
I can’t believe I am saying this but I agree with WV.
Generally, carbs tend to increase your needs for more food and sweet foods. I don’t have any cites but when you eat carbs your sugar levels tend to go up thereby needing to continue that “sugar high” which makes people want sweet foods or more food.
Like hajario, I don’t crave sweets, not because I only eat protiens and fats but because it’s just how I was raised.
People that want to lose weight may consider complex carbs in their diets because their insulin levels tend to stay lower than with simple carbs like white breads and white rice which also leads to over eating and needing sugar in their diet.
As an aside, two very important aspects of your diet that your body absolutely needs with great frequency are fats and sugars. Fats provide lipoproteins for cell construction while sugars provide energy. Therore, your body wants you to make sure you eat them so… they taste good. Hello ice-cream!!!
