Hello. Twenty-five years ago, I wrote a poem for my father. So far as I know, he never saw it. This year, my children said that they wanted to write a poem for fathers’ day. I thought I’d start this thread with my poem to my father, and on Sunday night post my kids’ poem(s) to me. In the meantime, I’d like anyone who feels so inclined to share any words they have for a loving and beloved father. I’m sorry for those who do not have a loved or beloved father, but this thread is not for them. As promised (Bad poetry alert), I’ll begin:
Flashing paratroops, shards of glass,
Deploy in the trenches between the yellowed floorboards where
The faded rug does not reach.
Sudden wind disturbs bookcase dust. Father
Sternly sneezes. Before him, the
Remorseful destroyer of worlds.
Judgment creases sunburned brow. A
Weighing of alternatives. The
Gloved Raskolnikov awaits the axe.
“You must” - gravely said. -"You must
"Release
"The ball not quite so soon, and
“Turn your wrist just so - let’s try!”
Curve thumps mitt, distant thunder claps,
Father laughs. A young soul dances to
These, the sounds of joy, forever.
