Fatima 1917

Does anyone know if there was media coverage on the Fatima of 1917?

Thanks

I don’t know about coverage at the time, but here is a site that contains informaiton on the children, the apparition and the message.

Given Cecil’s description of the events in this article, I’d say yes:

What happened to the secret message of Fatima?

Note- since this article was published, the “3rd secret” has been revealed (more or less) by the Pope (sometime last year).

Thanks for your time and comments.
They are appreciated.

What’s the secret?

The secret is that it is absolutely meaningless drivel.

Here is the 3rd secret of Fatima, the secret text kept from the public for nearly 50 years:

“After the two parts which I have already explained, at the left of Our Lady and a little above, we saw an Angel with a flaming sword in his left hand; flashing, it gave out flames that looked as though they would set the world on fire; but they died out in contact with the splendour that Our Lady radiated towards him from her right hand: pointing to the earth with his right hand, the Angel cried out in a loud voice: ‘Penance, Penance, Penance!’. And we saw in an immense light that is God: ‘something similar to how people appear in a mirror when they pass in front of it’ a Bishop dressed in White ‘we had the impression that it was the Holy Father’. Other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious going up a steep mountain, at the top of which there was a big Cross of rough-hewn trunks as of a cork-tree with the bark; before reaching there the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.”

Of course, the catholic priesthood has a long history of making doctrine out of drivel.

Is this really necessary, Chas E? It’s not my place to ask you to desist, but this is the second thread where you’ve turned a factual question into debate material. Gratuitous insults aren’t appropriate anywhere but the Pit. i look forward to a Moderator stopping by.

He was just lining facts with his opinion, something our lord and savior Cecil Adams does all the time. If he would have mixed his opinion with those facts that might be a little different but I dont see that he did anything to even remotely piss you off or merit “a mod stopping by”.

If there are any catholics who were not offended my my brief statement, I apologize.

You guys are just lucky I didn’t post my slightly altered version of the text.

Calling the religious faith or doctrine of a lot of people “drivel” is at least remotely offensive. The general question was “what was the secret?” and the answer would be the quote alone.

Well, there you go.

Another miracle! Even more impressive than water turned into wine.

3rd secret: to put it bluntly: a pope would be assassinated.
Since there WAS an attempt on JP II, that could have been it-who knows?

I do know that John XXIII took a look at it, and they said he was pretty shaken afterwards.

As I heard it interpreted, it was supposed to be a specific prediction of the death by assassination of JP II, shortly after the 50-year embargo on the letter expired. Of course this interpretation was modified after JP II survived the attempt.

and the verdict is…
drivel wins outright its been no contest for 2 millenia why change now ?

Grief, even a muppet like myself can turn up so much crap!
