I know that policy here is that we’re not supposed to directly talk about users who’ve been banned, since they’re not able to post to defend themselves. Seems reasonable.
But does that really extend out to infinity? I was thinking about a particularly hilarious jackass who was banned around 2002. Is it still not OK to talk about him? How about starting a thread (maybe in the pit) called Who Is Your Favorite Banned User Who’s Been Gone More Than 3 Years.
Is that acceptable? Probably not.
Please excuse the probable stupidity of this question.
People who are removed from this board have that happen for good reason. What purpose is served to rehash these cases, to draw attention to people with problems, to hold them up to ridicule?
They STILL can’t defend themselves, the fact that time has passed makes no difference.
Not that it changes the (IMO, correct) answer, but – it’s fun to reminisce, of course. Is there anyone who doesn’t on occasion think of particularly amusing interactions they’ve had with individuals in the past, even if they haven’t seen or heard from the person in years? Even more so when you’re with a group of friends, the conversation often turns to amusing things you’ve done in the past that are part of the group’s collective experience.
Yeah that’s basically it. I guess I agree the answer is correct too, I was just about to mention a relevant weirdo from years ago in another thread, but then remembered that I shouldn’t.
I guess the fact that time has passed suggested to me they’re long gone and moved on.
I actually did have a favourite banned user. I think he only registered to weigh in to a Pit thread on behalf of someone he thought was copping a raw deal. His style of arguing indicated that he expected to be banned but didn’t really care. Within days he was banned. I found his website and used to visit it regularly to see what he was stirring the pot about, in fact it is still in my favourites.
Sometime in the last 18 months personal problems conspired to stop him updating the site but he has threatened to return.
well, what about no names? For instance, can we talk about poster’s such as “got cha ya” or “circumcision is evil” or "whaddya think, should the prince of darkness “let his girlfriend with a strapon do him doggy”?
