Favorite Board Game?

Talisman is the best board game ever made. It hasn’t been made since '85 I believe, but any RP freak will back me up I hope.

The only game at our house is Scrabble

RoboRally This is probably the greatest board game to come out in the last 15 years.
Talisman is great.
Civilization is quite good.
Titan was usually fun.
Dungeon was also generally enjoyable.
Clue whiled away many a night.
Backgammon until my sister started to prove that it was possible for her to be a worse winner than loser.

Risk: That’s how I learned where Kamchatka is.
Clue: Colonel Mustard did it in the kitchen with a candlestick.
Scrabble: “That’s not a word!” “Are you officially challenging me?” “No, but that’s not a word.”

Balderdash. A game where you are given a really obscure word and must bluff opponents into accepting your made-up definition. I always lose - evidently my bull has an identifiable smell - but still enjoy it. Best played with cunning and intelligent friends.

Sorry.
I’ve even been known to play it with myself.

Rail Baron
Cosmic Encounter
Nuclear War (+Proliferation +Escalation)
Sorry

Oh no, I used to sit on my hands and bawk like a chicken ALL THE TIME in my youth!

Now, as an adult, I love Outburst. That is one fun game! There’s a lot of yelling and laughing going on. It’s my favorite by far.

That was my favorite game in grade and high school! It’s probably still stashed in my Mom’s house somewhere.

Monopoly will always be my favorite. I have the regular board game, the “deluxe” edition, the millenium addition, a hand held video game, and a multi-user, playable over the internet, version on my computer.

Trivial Pursuit is almost a tie. My friends and I have had all night Trivial Pursuit marathons. What a hoot.
We are really competative about it, too. No one will drink a beer or a glass of wine because it might give someone else an edge. We’ve challenged the answer on the cards, and have fired up the computer and whipped out the encyclopedias - just to be sure.

Chess is reserved for quiet nights when my SO and I are just mellowing out.

Of course, I could assume that these are my three faves simply because these are the three I ALWAYS win. Well, I don’t ALWAYS win at chess, but the other two I can’t be beat (which is good, because I’m a really bad loser ;))

Narile: You stole my mention of RoboRally, my favorite board game of all time.

(This was actually a topic of discussion among some of the Dopers at the Seattle get-together a couple of weeks back…)

I never liked Clue very much, then I got the Simpson’s version (“Who shot Mr. Burns”) and the game has made a revival in my house.

Trivial Pursuit! I know bits and pieces of all kinds of unimportant information. I got the Star Wars edition for Christmas. It’s really cute because instead of a die, R2D2 gives you a number of spaces to move. My husband said he’d be “nice” to our (then) 6yo and let her team up with me. He thought he was going to win anyway. But that little bugger was answering the questions that I didn’t remember. We kicked his butt! He no longer lets us team up.

My mother is GREAT at the original version. We asked her how she knew so much trivia. (My dad told us that he always knew she had a trivial mind.) She says, “I don’t know. It isn’t history to me. I just lived it.”

Cribbage. Yeah yeah, I know it’s a card game but it uses a board to keep score.

We got Sorry! and everybody loves that one. We just picked up Yahtzee last week and it became an instant hit.

We don’t have Monopoly just yet, since the Tzeroling is a little young for that. But it will happen soon. Funnily enough, the only time I ever won that game was the time we played it “by the book”, meaning if it wasn’t explicitly stated in the rules, then it didn’t happen.

We weren’t big on board games as a family but I dig chess and backgammon, and would love to try my hand at Go and Pente. Any DC area dopers know of a good boardgame shop? All I know are the gaming places.

Settlers of Catan is probably my favorite from a game design and enjoyment point of view.

Junta has had some of my favorite gaming experiences, being a Banana Republic Dictator and stabbing your friends in the back can be quite fun! Great group dynamics. Not as well designed as Settlers. Everybody wants to be the Minister of Intenral Security.

The Dealer McDope Dealing Game is hysterical. Who knew that being a hash smuggler was such fun?

If you’re ever down in Florida, consider yourself welcome to join in for a game of Monopoly. Sounds like you’d fit right in with our competitive little group.

**Scrabble

Trivial Pursuit**

Settlers of Catan is amazing
Scrabble and Boggle are always fun
Beyond Balderdash is one of my favorite “party games”

But my favorite board game of all is probably an imported German game called “Euphrates and Tigris”.
As for Monopoly, when I was in college, my roommates and I would take two monopoly boards and put the Go of one under the Free Parking of the other to make an enormous figure eight. Then there were special rules where if you had the same monopoly on both boards (we used an American and a Russian set to be able to tell the difference), the rent doubled, and there were special rules for the 8 railroads, and so forth… ahhh

Damn, Max, I been looking for a Russian Monopoly set for years! I had to satisfy myself with a Russian Scrabble set, but still…

In order:

Trivia games in general, not “Trivial Pursuit” in particular.

Clue

Scrabble

Stratego. Is that its name in English?

Am I the only one that loves Pictionary?
Some of the funniest things I’ve seen have been drawn/scribbled during Pictionary.

Also,
Scrabble (even though I suck)
Chess
Monopoly
