So what are your favorite lies that have been told by Bush, Kerry, their running mates, or their campaigns?
I’d like to stick to untruths told by the candidates themselves, by their campaign officials, or in ads bearing their explicit approval. (Sorry, the Swift Boat gang and MoveOn’s “Hitler” ad don’t count.)
So far, I’d have to say Bush’s recent return to the “Kerry voted 350 times to raise taxes” lie is his best (see Bush-Cheney “Thinking Mom” ad). I thought they’d abandoned that one for the (still false) “98 times” figure Bush used in the debates, but apparently things are too close for that now.
For Kerry, I like the lie that Bush has acted to “ban” stem cell research (see convention speech et al).
