Favorite Fictional Chemical?

Whatever was in the “Insanity Peppers of Quexochowhatal” (or whatever they were called) that Homer ate at the Chili Cookoff.

Love Potion No. 9.

And No. 8 too (sorry).

that was my choice as well.

Boosterspice - whatever age you are when you start taking it, that’s the way you remain. For hundreds of years, even. From Larry Niven’s Tales of Known Space universe.

Good ol’ skrith. Couldn’t build a ringworld without it.

Darn I was gonna say Chemical X. Mithril’s a good one too…

Does the spice melange count?

Corbomite.

That maneuver is so 23rd century!

From the 17th century I bring you the Balsam of Fierabras, the magical concoction that heals any wound of battle, used by Don Quixote.

Bravo! I was sure, when I opened the thread, that I’d be the first to mention this one. For those not familiar, it’s from an Asimov short story. The molecule is so convoluted that it extends into the past and future. It has interesting properties, like being able to dissolve a moment before a solvent is added to the beaker.

I’d say Soylent Green, but we all know what that’s made of.

What? No mention of flubber?

Nah, Nucleon is better – it raises the dead (or temporarily deactivated, at any rate), enhances your body to a more powerful form, increases your strength and vitality … might cause a bit of a problem with transforming, though.

Thiotimoline was my first choice, but on second thought I think I prefer the additive in Bob Shaw’s Slow Glass.

Gamma radiation. OK, not a chemical, but man, that stuff makes you bigger than viagra.

Can I mention the T-Virus? Not a chemical so much, but does come in handy when you need to make some zombies and don’t have time to wait on someone to die first.

Synthemesc (peet it with some moloko, that is)

Flubber?! I hardly even know her!

Steve, how can you bring up the Lensman series and not mention thionite? On the subject of fictional drugs there’s also bloodhype (from the Alan Dean Foster novel of that name); borloi (from Jerry Pournelle’s CoDominium/Falkenberg’s Legion series); and AUM, from Robert Anton Wilson’s “Illuminatus!.” Nuke has already been mentioned. Damn it, I want a new drug!

Did they ever give a name to that slag drug from “Alien Nation”?

what 'bout “Happy Fun Ball”
