I like Rolf Harris’s version of “Stairway to Heaven”.
I think maybe “parody” would be a better word than “cover” in some cases.
Fans of Broadway musicals should get a CD or two from Forbidden Broadway. A sampling of songs I’ve heard from it:
Into the Words (Into the Woods)
I was putting together a cd for my dad of all the versions of “Ghost Riders in the Sky” I could find. (Yes, it was his favorite song.)
One of the versions was called “Ghost Chickens” and it made me laugh like a fool. Dunno who did it, though.
The Cardigans’ versions of “Iron Man” and “Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.”
His version of “I Touch Myself” had me on the floor choking. I laughed so hard I slid out of my chair and couldn’t breathe!
Er…that’s the original version. Lemmy was still in Hawkwind at the time.
Goldfinger does a hilarious cover of “Rio” on the Duran Duran tribute album. Halfway through it suddenly changes to a parody of “Rainbow in the Dark”: “His name is DIO, Ronnie James DIO…”
In the “unintentionally funny” category, I’d nominate Celtic Frost’s “Mexican Radio”.
