Favorite Genesis albums (all eras represented)

The live version of “Carpet Crawlers” from Seconds Out is so much better IMO than the original version .

I didn’t like it as well. I like the original a great deal.

I voted Lamb, since it is my favorite to listen to. I won’t dispute that Selling England is a fantastic album, and with a lot more songs that stand on their own, but the Lamb will always have a special place in my heart. It’s a great story, and very easy to get lost in for awhile.

Funnily enough, though, my favorite song would be The Musical Box.

But really, any of the Gabriel-era stuff is delightful. I don’t really have a problem with the later stuff but it isn’t especially my thing. I’m not very familiar with it.

I heard the live version first on the Radio when Seconds out was released and didn’t hear the original til last year or so.

Close call between SEBTP and TOTT. Both are just so listenable, without a bad tune on either side of either album. (Yes, I actually listened to them when they were records, damnit!)

Selling England is one of my favourite albums by anyone.

The Lamb is an artistic triumph and, IMHO, everything between Nursery Cryme and Wind & Wuthering is superb, but Selling England has some of the best instrumental passages from the entire Genesis catalogue, with Gabriel at his quirkiest in “Battle of Epping Forest” as well.

Selling England…
