Favorite Guest Appearance by a Musician on a Record

It’s not really a landmark, fabulous effort or anything, more of a ‘fun to play for your friends and have them guess who the guitarists are’ effort, but Stephen Stills first solo album (titled Stephen Stills) has both Jimi Hendrix (“Old Times Good Times”) and Eric Clapton (“Go Back Home”).

And if we can count a CD released by the band, even if it’s not a formal album, I really enjoy good chunks of Joan Osborne singing with the post-Garcia Grateful Dead on their live tour. (You could send away for offical CD recordings of each show on the tour). Up and down, like all of the Dead of course, but “China Doll” and others were amazing.

Everyone has mentioned some really good guest appearences.

Did anyone mention George Harrison’s appearence on Cream’s Badge, billed as L’Angelo Mysterioso? He was also Hari Georgeson/George O’Hara for other showings, and assorted other names for other sit-ins.

By far my absolute favorite guest appearence:

Neil Young rocking the house with his blistering guitar solo on Warren Zevon’s Sentimental Hygiene. I was driving along listening to the radio the first time I heard it. There was no mistaking who it was. That song still gives me chills every time I hear it.

David Gilmour (Pink Floyd); Guitar; “Love And Anger”; Kate Bush Sensual World.

John Mark Painter; Accordian; “Kiss Me”; Sixpence None The Richer Sixpence None The Richer
-and-
Bass on the aforementioned “Common People”.

Flaco Jimenez’ accordion on Dwight Yoakam & Buck Owens “Streets of Bakersfield.” Blistering.
