What’s your favorite little intimate or romantic restaurant?
My wife and I liked a fondue place in Houston (The Melting Pot – it has a few locations across the country). You would sit in there for an interminably long time, dawdle over food, never eat very much, and just talk and enjoy each others’ company in the dim light. It’s not that it was a gourmet place, or that it was stellar, but the setup just meant that you planned to do nothing but share some quality time together.
How about you other Dopers – want to relate some favorites? (Bonus points if it’s in Boston, just north of it, or in Southern NH, so that I might try it… but don’t limit yourself.)
I haven’t tried The Melting Pot, but one of my favorite special date restaurants is La Trattoria on Westheimer near Voss.
The owner subscribes to the Slow Food movement and takes tremendous pride in his menu and winelist.
Good food and wine is such a sensual experience - we never leave that rstaurant in under two hours. The staff is very professional and Carlo treats each customer as a favored guest.
Okay, I’'ll bite.
When we lived East, we liked Ye Olde Temperance House in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, just off 95 a few exits from the bridge to New Jersey. It is in an old inn, right in town. Good menu, and you can ask for a table by the fireplace. Even better, it is an inn also, so if you stay over you can go right upstairs to bed.
I wish I could find a place like that in Brisbane. Early on in our relationship my girlfriend and I spent hours at a restaurant one night. We were there from 7 to about 10. We had a great time, talking about nothing, but never getting bored. It was kind of funny having the wait staff not be very good at hiding their impatience at our not leaving. As I recall they wound up turning off all the lights near us towards the end of the night. While I still remember the evening as enjoyable because of the time my gf and I spent together it’d be nice to find a restaurant where lengthy stays are expected!
